CARTHAGE, Texas—When things got bad in the second half of Saturday’s Region III-2A championship game for Daingerfield, some of the Tigers thought of 10-year-old Mason Ridenour.

“Thinking about Mason was all the motivation I needed,” said junior wide receiver Chris Jones, who scored twice at Carthage High School’s new Bulldog Stadium in helping the Tigers survive upset-minded Newton, 21-18. “Mason has leukemia, and we’re all playing for him.”
