ASHDOWN, Ark.—Between 200 and 300 participants from as far away as New Mexico are expected for the fourth annual Little River Challenge bicycle race today.

“This is our fourth race, but it’s always been strictly recreational before,” said Challenge organizer Dee Bell. “This is the first time its been sanctioned (by USA Cycling).”

Riders in the Pro 1/2/3 division will vie for more than $1,000 in cash and several hundred more in prizes. Starting at 8 a.m., it will be the first of eight races and will measure 72 miles.
