Gooding Sr., 72, found dead in car

LOS ANGELES-Soul singer Cuba Gooding Sr., a 1970s music star and the father of Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr., was found dead in his car Thursday in Woodland Hills, officials said.

Gooding's body was slumped over the wheel of his Jaguar on Ventura Boulevard about 1 p.m., according to officials.

LAPD officials said there were no signs of foul play and that the investigation had been turned over to the Los Angeles County coroner's office to determine the cause of death. Paramedics who responded to the scene tried to revive the singer.

Gooding, 72, rose to fame as the lead singer of The Main Ingredient and was known for hits including "Everybody Plays the Fool" and "Just Don't Want to be Lonely."
