L-EISD changes date of pay for employees to 20th of each month

Employees of Liberty-Eylau Independent School District can now look for their paycheck on the 20th of the month. During Monday's regular meeting, trustees approved moving the date from the 25th.
"We feel like if we move it to the 20th of the month, then it kind of takes out the highs and lows of the school pay situation," said Superintendent Roger Hailey. "We're probably one of the few businesses left that pay on a monthly basis," he said. That change will be put in place immediately, so employees get paid before Christmas, he added.
In addition, approved a budget amendment to add $110,382 to the general fund for items including a new vehicle for the school's police department, software for special populations, regular and playoff travel for athletics and cheer, and a new roof for the administration building.
Darla Moss, L-E's chief financial officer, said, "Due to an increase in student enrollment an increase in the fund balance is still projected at the end of this school year."
Moss also told the board the student nutrition fund was being reduced by $13,087 due to salary adjustments.
Members also reviewed a second reading of FFAC local regarding medical treatment. This specifically addresses requirements for administering epinephrine auto injectors to those believed to be in anaphylactic shock on a school campus, at off-campus school events or while in transit to or from the school event.
This was a change from the first reading, Hailey said, as the last one was physician-ordered. "We searched and searched and couldn't get a physician to sign off. Basically, the law says you don't have to have a physician's directive to do that," he said. "This policy takes the physician order out of play."
Trustees reviewed the second reading of FMG local regarding student travel, which concerns day trips to other states.
"We're so close to the line between Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma, a lot of time we take day trips," Hailey told the board. "The previous policy had it where if it was out of state, the board had to approve it. This policy just gives me the authority to approve the day trips to out of state, not night trips."
Julie Ratcliff, a teacher at the Pre-K Center, was named employee of the month, and students from the middle school told the board about several motivational groups at their school.
