Oh snap, it's a new trend.

Let's take this snappy phrase from its usual settings and set it down in the bold world of baubles.

Yep, jewelry.

Interchangeable snap jewelry to be precise.

It's specially made, button-like charms that snap into holes in coordinating earrings, necklaces and bracelets.

Usually circular, these distinctively designed discs run the gamut in motifs, reflecting a woman's interests.

The primary allure to this jewelry trend?

Its versatility and ability to express the wearer's creativity.

There are myriad charms from which to choose-initials, faith, flowers, animals, holidays and some professions and sports.

Change the charms to fit your mood, your wardrobe or even to accessorize for the event you're attending.

My fascination with this trend began about a year ago when I spied them at a local gift shop.

Fortunately, I was with a sensible friend who is always challenging me not to make a purchase.

I resisted; I was strong.

However, I couldn't forget about it.

Weeks later, while sick and simultaneously suffering from cabin fever, I Googled interchangeable jewelry.

And what to my wandering eyes should appear but all kinds of charms I could have shipped here.

I made my selections, placing them in an online cart and walked away for several weeks.

By no means could this be classified as a snap decision.

Jewelry is a vice, but I was certainly trying to show restraint.

It wasn't until a trip to an area festival a few weeks later that I succumbed to the weakness.

It was the last day of the festival, and the weather had been rainy and miserable.

The booth's vendor was looking to liquidate her stock and cut her losses.

The rock-bottom price she quoted me for three snap charms and a leather strap to wear them on had me singing in the rain.

A few days later, another friend spotted my bargain bracelet and was truly enthralled.

Where could she get one? Where could we find the charms?

This particular friend believes in plentiful shopping trips, quite the opposite from my no-buy friend.

Therefore, we snapped to it, finding several local sources of interchangeable jewelry and making our purchases.

Months later, we are still charmed by our interchangeable charms.

Oh snap, at least to me, conveys a new discovery or realization of sorts.

With the interchangeable charms, it is a new creation every day.
