One Less Worry: New Arkansas law gives a break to service men and women

Service men and women stationed away from home face a lot of problems most of us never encounter.

But those from Arkansas will soon have one less thing to worry about.

In the past, military personnel with Arkansas driver's licenses had to make an effort to keep them current. But starting in November, service men and women residing outside the state can apply to have their driver's license expiration dates extended until 60 days after they are honorably discharge from the military.

The exemption applies to both active duty military men and women and reservists.

Arkansas joins Texas, California and a few other states with the same provision for military members.

It's a small thing, to be sure. But we think it's a fine idea and about time. And we are sure it will be appreciated.

Anything that makes life a bit easier for our service men and women is something we all can get behind. Kudos to the state Legislature on this one.
