Shopping Season: Do you support local economy during holidays or do you prefer to shop online?

Next week at this time, many of you will be out and about, enjoying the bargains to be had on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and the busiest shopping day of the year.

Shopping in our local stores helps the economy here in the Twin Cities. It puts money into the local economy and helps provide jobs for your family, friends and neighbors. We encourage it.

Some residents, however, prefer to do their shopping online for a variety of reasons, including convenience.

We want to know about your shopping preferences. Do you support Texarkana businesses by doing most of your holiday shopping at local retailers? Or do you make most of your purchases online?

Send your response (50 words maximum) to [email protected] by Wednesday, Nov. 22. You can also mail your response to the Texarkana Gazette Friday Poll, at P.O. Box 621, Texarkana, TX 75504 or drop it off at our office, 101 E. Broad St., Texarkana, Ark. Be sure to include your name, address and phone number. We will print as many responses as we can in next Friday's paper.

Last Week: Capital Option

Last week's question was about whether churches should allow licensed concealed carry of firearms. Would you feel safer if your church welcomed licensed firearm owners to carry during services and other gatherings? Or are you opposed to firearms in church?

Many churches already have concealed carry. Our church has had a security team for years. And yes! I do feel safer, especially after recent events.-C.H., Texarkana, Texas

I believe it has come down to churches having an armed security guard. I think it should be members who do it. If they have several members who are properly trained, there should only be one person. Not letting all kinds of members carrying a firearm. Each Sunday, having one member who stands at the front entrance area. Maybe larger congregations need more than one.-B.J., Texarkana, Texas

Yes, I would feel much safer if parishioners with a license to carry were allowed to carry their legally owned firearms in church. If even one church member had been armed in Sutherland Springs, fewer people might have been killed. One man with one gun made him run away.-M.R.B., Texarkana, Texas

  • You are not safe anywhere now days. Yes, if someone has their license to carry, then they should be able to carry their gun wherever they go.
  • Once again just stop it. A highly trained law enforcement officer has a difficult time dealing with the chaos of mass shootings. WHO is the shooter? Can I get a kill shot? Through all these people running and screaming, will I shoot someone else? It's a nightmare scenario that even they have difficulty dealing with. But Joe Six-Pack with his trusty side arm can?
  • Whether or not it's encouraged, I can pretty much guarantee there are armed folks in every church building in Bowie County.
  • If it's concealed, who is going to know? Keep it with you at all times.
  • Lock and load we are going to church. Insane in the membrane.
  • I can see how a nervous armed congregation can go off during prayer if a Bible is accidentally dropped. How about just hiring security?
  • Positive move for safety of congregation.
  • Should be allowed.
