Mysterious Ways: Bible something to learn, not leave

It is said the Lord works in mysterious ways.

Just ask one California man who found himself in a Texas lockup.

The Wichita Falls Times Record reported Thursday that last week police were called to a Wichita Falls, Texas, Walmart store. It seems someone had tried to make off with about $108 in merchandise, including food, clothes and electronics. A store employee stopped him and got the goods back as he was leaving.

While the police were on their way, well, that's when the Lord apparently decided to work in that mysterious way. It seems the alleged shoplifter felt the call to return to the scene of the crime.

To retrieve his Bible.

Yes, you read that correctly. He had left his Bible behind in the bag of allegedly pilfered items.

The store obliged him. After getting his Bible back, the man reportedly walked to a nearby restaurant where police, by now on the scene, tried to stop him.

The suspect took off but was quickly captured. Now he faces theft charges and, according to the paper, was being held in county jail in lieu of bail.

We make no judgment as to this individual's guilt or innocence. We'll leave that up to the justice system-and the good Lord above.

But with time on his hands, he might want to try reading that Bible. And pay particular attention to Exodus 20:15: "Thou shalt not steal."
