Every year, usually in early December when the Christmas shopping season begins to really heat up, we use this space to encourage locals to spend their dollars with Texarkana businesses.
But that's not something that should be limited to the holidays. The city of Texarkana, Texas, has created a shop local campaign urging residents to think of Texarkana first when considering shopping options.
They have taken to social media, using the hashtag #ShopTXK, and are distributing stickers with the same message.
The city sees a lot of advantages to shopping retailers located right here in Texarkana. The more money spent here, the more tax revenue for city services and projects that benefit all residents. And local support of business encourages more businesses to come here and create jobs.
We like the sound of that. And we should add as well that every dollar spent in Texarkana is an investment in your friends, family and neighbors who work at these places. More profits mean their jobs are secure. And their wages support many other businesses around the city. It really is a ripple effect.
