Cruel and Callous

Authorities seek information in animal abuse case

We are sure many were outraged when they saw the lead story on the front page of this newspaper today.

Three boxer-mix puppies were apparently thrown from a moving vehicle in the Sugar Hill area of Texarkana, Ark.

It was a cruel and callous act. The puppies could have been killed. But somehow, though injured, they survived and are being treated and cared for at the Texarkana Animal Care and Adoption Center.

How could anyone do such a thing? All they had to do is take the pups to the Animal Care Center in the first place. There was no reason to just toss them from a vehicle.

It's hard to imagine what goes through such a person's mind.

Fortunately, the puppies are reportedly making a full recovery. They may soon be available for adoption and, with any luck, will find loving forever homes. Knowing how many people in the Twin Cities love animals, we imagine there have already been inquiries.

We see posts on social media all the time about puppies being dumped in rural areas. Usually they are simply put out on the side of the road to fend for themselves. We doubt most make it unless some good Samaritan living nearby finds them and takes them in.

But this perpetrator couldn't even do that. He or she had to add an extra measure of cruelty. If you can help shed some light on whomever did this, we urge you to call CrimeStoppers at 903-798-STOP or the Animal Care Center at 870-773-6388.

With any luck, the person responsible will be found and face the consequences.
