Letters to the Editor: House divided & Civil War

House divided

TO THE EDITOR:

We always dream of peace and coming together as one big happy family. But when I pick up my Bible and read Luke 12:52-53, " there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law."

I see this more and more each day. Twin brothers killing each other. Uncles against nephews. Kinfolk that don't talk to each other anymore. How can we have peace with others if our family is apart?

I don't have the answers. When we begin to love ourselves again (by not putting drugs or alcohol in our system) we can then pass it on to our families. Learn how to let go of the grudges. Let go and let God.

Civil War

TO THE EDITOR:

In Texas High School we were taught that the Civil War was fought over states' rights. Who has said my great uncles and Great Grandfather went to the horror of war to fight about slavery? They did not have slaves nor know personally anything about slavery. Their purpose was to stand for each state to remain free to govern as was the given right by every founding document of our United States of America.

The Civil War was not about slavery. It was fought for each state to have the right to govern as it chose.
