Letter to the EditorTO THE EDITOR:
I would like to thank Mr. Neal Freeman and the Texarkana, Ark., Police Department. They are to be commended. On Feb. 22 at 6 a.m. on my way to work, my truck broke down at Blackman Ferry Road and Highway 71 South. I got a ride to work from a neighbor, Wayne Black. When I got to work at Davis Lumber, I asked Mr. Freeman to pick my truck up with his wrecker at approximately 8 a.m. Mr. Freeman went to get my truck. A red Dodge Dakota was pulling my truck North on 71 S toward Texarkana. Mr. Freeman turned around and stopped the Dakota and asked the driver what he was doing. The driver of the Dakota unhooked his tow bar and left in a hurry. Within less than six minutes, officer Sam McJunkins was at the scene and took a very professional report of what had happened. The police departments only information was that it was a while male and a red Dodge Dakota. In less than one hour Detective Rick Endsley called me at work and told me they had a suspect and that a CID detective was working the case. Lt. Endsley told me he would let me know what happened on the attempted auto theft. Within less than 36 hours, a suspect was arrested trying to steal another vehicle. It was fine work by the Texarkana, Ark., police department. The man was charged with several other auto thefts and attempted auto thefts. My thanks go out to Mr. Neal Freeman for what you did by stopping the driver of the red Dodge Dakota. Also my thanks go to officer Sam McJunkins and Rick Endsley of the Texarkana, Ark., CID division and the entire police department. Chief Bob Harrison, thanks to you, Texarkana, Ark., has a fine police department.
Wade Hall Texarkana, Ark. Where was justice? TO THE EDITOR: The United States Constitution guarantees equal rights for all and equal justice for all under its laws. We the people of these Twin Cities must view kangaroo courts as a menace to society. Doshee Towery is charged in the slaying of Phillip Jerome Stanley. The Stanleys, relatives and unknown hundreds of Phillips friends demand justice. A $900,000 bond reduction? The Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, Texarkana Gazette story about a man killed in a car. The alleged shooter flees and crashes his vehicle while evading police, then attempts to run. The suspect crashed his vehicle into the rear of a vehicle at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and Kings Highway, and that vehicle then struck another vehicle at the intersection. The suspect, Doshee Towery, attempted to flee but was caught by Bowie County Deputy Mike Wiser. In the Tuesday, March 6, 2007, Texarkana Gazette, Judge John Miller told Doshee Towery, ‘As long as you continue to abide by the terms and conditions set forth by this court, you may remain on bond. His bond was first set for $1 million but was later reduced. Towery is currently in Dallas with his mother. No notice of any judicial action was made to anyone in the victims families. A suspect in a fatal shooting caught fleeing and endangering other citizens lives? There should be no bail. Whats the set-up? Will there be a mistrial, error, grounds for appeal, lifelong freedom of Doshee Towery a menace to society. Basil Rasheed Texarkana, Texas Thanks to officials TO THE EDITOR: I would like to take an opportunity to remind the public of what a difficult job our elected officials and public servants face. They are often working with limited manpower, making their tasks more difficult. When we do need the help of law enforcement, public officials and the judicial system, we often are already stressed by the current situation. I would like to thank Sheriff James Prince and his deputies, J.P. Gerald Rankin, Constable Bruce Crouch and the DeKalb Police Department, District Attorney Bobby Lockhart and the DPS for the work they perform. Kyle Groom DeKalb, Texas |
