Sacrifice deserved attention from a preoccupied nation

Sacrifice deserved attention from a preoccupied nation

The nations media, spellbound by the Don Imus saga and the revelation of who fathered Anna Nicole Smiths baby, seem to have passed over a much more important story.

The death of a hero.

Of course, we have heroes giving their lives every day in Iraq, and America has, its sad to admit, become so used to these battlefield deaths that we often fail to pay proper respect and notice.

This hero, though, died not in the Middle East but in New Jersey, in a city called Readington Township.

On April 5, law enforcement officials investigating a string of bank robberies followed suspects to the PNC Bank in Readington Township. The officers attempted to apprehend the men, who attempted to flee.

Shots were fired and Special Agent Barry Lee Bush became only the 51st FBI agent killed in the line of duty.

Two of the four suspects were arrested at the scene and two others were nabbed within a day.

Its possible Bushs death was a tragic mistake and that he was killed by friendly fire. The FBI is investigating the shooting.

But exactly what bullet killed Bush doesnt matter. He died a heros death that day in New Jersey.

The U.S. attorney general, the Justice Department and the FBI are under fire right now.

But we should remember that despite the controversies, there are still thousands of remarkable men and women out there doing their duty to keep the rest of us safe.

Special Agent Barry Lee Bush was buried Thursday in his hometown of Pottstown, Pa. Attending were his wife and two children and thousands of mourners, including Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III.

It was a heros sendoff.

And it deserved more attention than it got.
