Student golfers from across South coming to Texarkana for championship

Get ready for some golf.

The 2007 Conference USA Mens Golf Championship is coming to Texarkana next week.

Founded in 1995, Conference USA features 12 universities: East Carolina, Houston, Marshall, Memphis, Rice, SMU, Southern Miss, Tulane, Tulsa, University of Alabama-Birmingham, University of South Florida and University of Texas-El Paso.

All save Tulane, still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, will field teams at the Texarkana event.

Now thats a lot of golf action.

The championship will be held Sunday through Tuesday at Texarkana Country Club.

The clubs celebrated and challenging course will be the perfect playing field as these college athletes compete for the title.

And the clubs beautiful landscaping and lovely old clubhouse will make the perfect backdrop for spectators watching the tournament. Even those who arent all that keen on the game will enjoy strolling the clubs grounds.

The C-USA Championship is good for our city, too. Players and the families, as well as fans, from across the South will be in Texarkana for the event. That means theyll be spending money on lodging, dining, etc. This tournament is a great way to introduce them to what our city has to offer.

Its always wonderful when Texarkana is chosen to host an event like this. We should all turn out and show our support for these young athletes and for the championship.
