Jim Curcio hit it big.
Jim Curcio hit it big.
The 56-year-old used car dealer was traveling down the Florida Turnpike when he stopped at a service station. While there he bought a $20 Florida Lottery scratch-off ticket. Curcio scratched ‘Gold Rush ticket and got the numeral 1 on the top row. A matching 1 above an amount on the bottom row of the ticket would mean Curcio had won. When he scratched the bottom part of the ticket, Curcio could hardly believe it. There was the the numeral 1 above a prize of $500,000. Curcio had won half a million dollars. Or so he thought. When he tried to redeem the ticket and collect his prize, lottery officials scanned the ticket and delivered some bad news. The bar code on the ticket didnt match the prize. Lottery officials decided the 1 over the prize amount was a misprint most likely a 13 that wasnt printed correctly. Easy come, easy go. Well, not exactly. ‘Theyre saying its a misprint. How do I know its a misprint? and Associated Press story quoted Curcio as asking. Curcio has hired a lawyer. Maybe hell get lucky in court.
