Some people blame God for all their troubles.

Some people blame God for all their troubles.

One man decided to a step further—he sued God.

Mircea Pavel is a prisoner in Romania serving 20 years for murder.

Pavel got the bright idea that he wasn’t responsible for all the bad things that had happened to him—and that he had done— in his life

But he knew who was.

So Pavel filed a lawsuit against “defendant God, resident in Heaven, represented here by the Romanian Orthodox Church.”

Pavel said that when he was baptized as an infant, God entered into a legal contract to protect him from evil.

As His agent on Earth, the Romanian church was responsible for seeing that the contract was enforced.

Well, obviously convicted killer Pavel and evil are well acquainted. Pavel says he gave God monetary offerings and prayers over the years to ensure his protection and blessings, but that God still allowed him to fall into the clutches of “the devil.”

So, basically, this was a breach of contract suit.

Novel theory.

But a theory it was doomed to remain. A Romanian court threw out the suit last week on the grounds that “God is not an object of law.”

The court also noted residency problems.

After all, it’s difficult to serve a subpoena in Heaven.
