Early voting for March 6 races begins this week

February 19th, 2018 by Karl Richter in Local Politics

Early voting in this year's Texas primary elections begins Tuesday and ends March 2.

During that time, Bowie County voters may cast ballots from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Bi-State Justice Building in Texarkana or the County Courthouse in New Boston.

Primary Election Day is March 6. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 27 locations throughout Bowie County.

The elections will determine Republican and Democrat nominees for various local and statewide offices, including governor, lieutenant governor, U.S. senator and U.S. House representative for Texas' Congressional District 4. Those nominees will face off in the general election Nov. 6.

To vote, Texans must present one of seven acceptable forms of photo identification:

  •  Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety;
  •  Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS;
  •  Texas personal identification card issued by DPS;
  •  Texas license to carry a handgun issued by DPS;
  •  United States military identification card containing the person's photograph;
  •  United States citizenship certificate containing the person's photograph; or
  •  United States passport.

Voters who do not possess one of the forms of acceptable photo ID and cannot obtain one due to a reasonable impediment may present a supporting form of ID, including:

  • valid voter registration certificate;
  •  certified birth certificate (must be an original);
  •  copy of or original current utility bill;
  •  copy of or original bank statement;
  •  copy of or original government check;
  •  copy of or original paycheck; or
  •  copy of or original government document with name and an address (original required if it contains a photograph)

After presenting a supporting form of ID, the voter must execute a Reasonable Impediment Declaration.
