Mitzner tabbed as Texarkana's manager

Jake Mitzner was announced as the manager of the inaugural season for the Texas College Baseball team in Texarkana with the season beginning the end of May.

Mitzner's hiring was announced by the Clutch Entertainment Group Monday in Texarkana and through a press release. Mitzner is currently a graduate assistant at East Central Oklahoma and serves as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.

He has been the head coach of the Santa Fe Fuego of the Pecos League, leading the team to the North Division title and league championship in 2015. Mitzner was a student manager for 2013 NJCAA National Champions from Murray State College, and he was inducted into the Murray State College Hall of Fame for his contributions to the program.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to coach a brand new team and help create a brand not only on the field but in the community as well," said Mitzner through the press release. "We are going to be winners on the field and in the community. We will play hard for the team and hard for the city. I can't wait to start coaching there this summer and can't wait bring a championship to the City of Texarkana."

Texarkana will play its home games at George Dobson Field, and it opens up May 26 against the Victoria Generals.

The team is still deciding on which of the five final names the team will take for the inaugural summer. The five finalists for Texarkana are Rhinos, Thrillers, Thunder Monkeys, Toucans and Twins.
