Twins on their way to routing Victoria

Victoria's perfect record (6-0) against the Texarkana Twins was in jeopardy Sunday at George Dobson Field.

Pitching wasn't even close to perfect as three hurlers combined for seven walks and three hit batsmen in the first four innings as the Twins built a 16-3 lead.

The Twins' batters may have been the biggest reason for Victoria's struggles on the mound. Texarkana had 13 hits in the first four frames, with native Cale Ridling hitting safely his first four times to the plate with two doubles, two singles and six RBIs.

Texarkana never trailed, scoring a run in the first on singles by Gunner Halter, Kyle Bottger and Ridling.

Four walks and singles by Blake Porter and Ridling made it 5-0 after two innings.

The Generals, second in the Texas Collegiate League behind Brazos Valley, scored three runs in the third off Texarkana starter Blaze Hastings. Victoria didn't need a hit with the Southeast Missouri right-hander walking three and hitting a batter. There was also  a costly infield error.

The game turned into a rout when the Twins scored six more runs in the fourth with two outs.

Back-to-back singles by Drake Osborn and Blake Porter ignited the explosion.

The next two batters went down, but hot-hitting Alex Rodriguez singled home a run, and Kyle Bottger was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ridling lined a double down the right field line to score two more runs. Connor Anderson smashed a double down to the left field

corner, scoring two more runs. Anderson scored on a double by Cole Coffey.

Hastings was in position to get the win, leaving after the sixth. He allowed only two hits, walking four and striking out five. Billy Fogle took over in the seventh and struck out the side.

It was still 16-3 going to the bottom of the seventh at presstime. The two teams are scheduled to play again tonight at 7:30 p.m.
