MORGANTOWN, W.Va.-Will Grier threw three touchdown passes and No. 7 West Virginia rolled to a 47-10 victory over TCU on Saturday.
West Virginia (8-1, 6-1 Big 12, No. 9 CFP) had no trouble against the injury-riddled Horned Frogs (4-6, 2-5) as it pursues a possible berth in the conference championship game with two regular-season games left.
"Morale's good. Confidence is good. Work ethic is good. It's why we're winning," West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen said. "You're only as good as your next one, so these guys have to continue doing that."
The Mountaineers scored three touchdowns in a 3:25 span of the second quarter to break open a tie game.
TCU (4-6, 2-5) was held to a season-low 222 yards of offense, the third time in four games it's gained fewer than 300. The Horned Frogs are in jeopardy of missing a bowl for just the third time under coach Gary Patterson.
"We've been on the other side of these many times," Patterson said. "You've got to find a way to score points and you've got to find a way to stop people."
It also marked the fewest yards allowed this season by West Virginia, who gave up 520 yards in a close win at Texas a week ago.
Grier had TD tosses of 32, 8 and 4 yards. He finished 25 of 39 for 343 yards.
TCU's Mike Collins had some success throwing to Jalen Reagor, but not much else worked. Collins completed 22 of 37 passes for 229 yards. He also was flagged for intentional grounding in the end zone in the third quarter and West Virginia was awarded a safety.
Grier followed that by finding Marcus Simms with a 53-yard pass to set up Kennedy McKoy's 1-yard scoring run for a 33-3 lead.
Iowa State 28, Baylor 14
AMES, Iowa-A weird game ended with another wonderful result for Iowa State.
Now the Cyclones have to wait and see on the status of star running back David Montgomery.
Brock Purdy threw for a touchdown and ran for another score, and No. 23 Iowa State topped Baylor 28-14 on Saturday after a skirmish in the third quarter resulted in unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for each player on both teams.
Purdy threw for 230 yards as Iowa State (6-3, 5-2, No. 22 CFP) won a fifth straight Big 12 game in the same season for the first time. Deshaunte Jones added a TD reception and threw for a 2-point conversion, and Iowa State shut out Baylor on five of its seven trips to the red zone.
Purdy's 11-yard TD pass to Jones and his 2-yard touchdown run helped Iowa State to a 17-0 halftime lead.
Baylor (5-5, 3-4) answered with a Charlie Brewer TD pass, but Matt Eaton fought through a defensive pass interference call for a 38-yard catch that set up Johnnie Lang's 8-yard touchdown run and a 28-7 Cyclones lead.
The game took an ugly turn when Montgomery and Baylor linebacker Greg Roberts were ejected after briefly fighting each other early in the third.
The Cyclones and Bears nearly came to blows when a previous play ended up spilling over onto Iowa State's bench. The bad blood hung around, and the teams nearly staged a full-on brawl during a wild incident that included Roberts slapping Montgomery on the helmet, and Montgomery swinging away in response.
Campbell said he wanted to review the tape before commenting on the incident, though he did defend Montgomery.
Montgomery finished with 53 yards rushing. The Big 12 will review the incident, and Montgomery could be suspended for the first half of next weekend's huge game at Texas.
Brewer threw for 288 yards and two touchdowns. But he was ejected for his second unsportsmanlike penalty with 5:51 left.
Kansas State 21, Kansas 17
MANHATTAN, Kan.-Kansas State's defense gave up big plays, its offense struggled to consistently move the ball and its special teams made more mistakes in one game Saturday than they often do in an entire season.
The Wildcats were still good enough to beat Kansas.
Alex Barnes ran for 117 yards and two touchdowns, Alex Delton scored the go-ahead TD from 21 yards out in the closing minutes, and Kansas State managed to hold on for a frigid, wind-blown 21-17 victory - their 10th straight over their biggest rivals.
Kansas State (4-6, 2-5 Big 12) trailed 17-14 when it got the ball back with 5:02 to go, and Barnes converted fourth-and-2 with a hard, hurdling run. Delton then connected with Dalton Schoen for 28 yards before taking a quarterback draw for a touchdown with 2:46 to go.
The Jayhawks (3-7, 1-6) reached the Kansas State 32 as they tried to answer, but Peyton Bender had the ball inexplicably pop from his hands while trying to pass with 20 seconds left to end the game.
Bender finished with 232 yards passing and two TDs for the Jayhawks, who were trying to win their first road conference game since Oct. 4, 2008. Steven Sims had five catches for 113 yards and a score.
Bender's turnover summed up a game that boiled down to which team made fewer mistakes.
