Razorback boys, Waldron girls win in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Ark.-Arkansas High showed why it's a contender to make another run at a state tittle at the Scrapper Relays in Nashville, Ark., Thursday night at Scrapper Stadium.

Arkansas High boys left no doubt as they took the crown back to Texarkana, and Waldron girls slipped by Ashdown to take home the crown for the girls.

The Arkansas High boys finished in first place with a total of 163 points. Broken Bow came in second with a total of 65 points, and Nashville finished in third place with 65 points.

Head coach Denny Burdine liked the performance he saw from the Hogs.

"I thought we performed well out there," Burdine said. "We split our varsity team up between here and a Hot Springs meet. We had 12 freshmen running in the relays tonight. It's a good chance to let all the kids run, and we came out and showed what we could do."

Tyler Braswell paced himself in the 1,600-meter run and finished in first place with a time of 4:42.37. In the 800-meter run Braswell finished in first place with a time of 2:05.

Braswell finished in second place in individual scoring with 36 points.

In the 100 meters, Timothy Stuckey got out to a fast start and finished in first place with a time of 11:38. Stuckey got the gold in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.42.

Nicholas McCann finished in first place in the shot put with a 49-06 for the Razorbacks.

The Razorbacks used teamwork in the 4x100 relay. Jaylon Beard, Cameron Collier, Stucky and Cameron Grissom finished in first place with a time of 43.20.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Collier (42.66) and Johnathan Gullatt (42.98) finished first and second, totaling 18 points in one event for the Razorbacks.

After 11 events Arkansas High had 111 points.

"We have only lost one track meet in three years," Burdine said. "We take pride in track and field at Arkansas High, and we have a rich tradition. For us it's going to come down to the last track meets of the year. We do great at practice, and we saw the results of practice out here."

Nashville's Kirby Adcock finished in first place in the discus with a distance of 126.06. Trace Beene finished in first place for the Scrappers in the pole vault with a 14-06.

On the girls' side Waldron took the lead from Ashdown after the 3,200-meter run. Ashdown led for most of the night but couldn't hang on in the end. Waldron finished in first place with 111 points. Ashdown followed with 96 points, and El Dorado finished in third place with 90 points.

Ashdown's Shacoya Poole stole the show on the girls' side. Poole led the girls' individual scores with 45.50 points.Poole set a new meet record in the girls' high jump with a 5-04, and then in the triple jump Poole finished in first with a 35-11. Poole wasn't done just yet. In the 100-meter hurdles Pool finished in first place with a time of 15.99.

Hope's Ajah Criner finished in first place in the 400 meters (62.26) and the 200 meters (26.42).
