There appears to be no end in sight to Arkansas High's Track and Field tradition.

The Razorbacks easily outdistanced Lake Hamilton's boys Thursday at Razorback Stadium during the 7A/6A conference championships, 207 1/2 to 149 1/2, featuring a lineup that included 10 freshmen.

It was similar in the girls' division with the Lady Backs piling up 180 points, and Lake Hamilton second at 146.

"Our seniors and freshmen really performed well tonight," veteran AHS coach Denny Burdine said. "We've won three straight state championships, but we'll have our hands full next week with Lake Hamilton. I think they'll be the favorites because of their depth, particularly in the longer races."

Burdine's team have now won five consecutive Conference 7A/6A titles, while Angela Moody's girls have won six league crowns in her 10-year head coaching position at AHS. Her Lady Backs will be going for a fifth state championship next week under her leadership.

Lake Hamilton's boys jumped out to an early lead thanks to a 1-2-3 finish in the pole vault.

However, the Razorbacks stayed in contention thanks to senior Nickolas McCann's win in the discus (145-11), and silver medal effort in the shot put.

It didn't take the Razorbacks to capture the lead. Jonathan Gullatt won the 110 hurdles in 14.76, with teammates Cameron Collier and Irijah Price placing second and third, respectively. Timothy Stuckey and Cameron Grissom followed up with a 1-2 finish in the 100.

It was a done deal after the 300 hurdles after a 1-2-3-4 finish. Corey McElroy won in 41.87, and was closely followed by teammates Price, Gullatt and Collier. Arkansas High's Stuckey and Grissom won gold and silver in the 200, respectively.

Junior Tyler Braswell contributed to the Hogs' rout by winning the 800 (2:00.32) and 1600 (4:31.14). He was third in the 3200 beating Lake Hamilton freshman sensation Colby Swecker.

Pine Bluff's Lawrence Nelson edged four Razorbacks for individual high points honors with 32.

Three teams were deadlocked at the top of the girls' division after nine events. That changed in the 400 when the Lady Backs had three girls sweep the medals, all running under one minute. Shebria won in 58.22, with Tytianna Smith second (58.99) and Skylar Bailey third (59.64.

"I felt it was going to be close going into the meet," Moody said. "We had outstanding performances all day. We're going to have a chance to win another state championship. Jonesboro has some fast girls that could split up some of our points in the sprints.

"It's hard to explain how brutal this meet can be. You're out here all day in the heat and you've got four phases to this. It's like a four-round boxing match. Some of our girls didn't handle that very well, and that was probably the only thing I was disappointed with. Some of the girls didn't drink enough fluids, and there were other little things."

The Lady Backs recorded three gold medal efforts in the field to keep pace with Lake Hamilton and Parkview. Quintiesha Coats won the shot put; Shikayla Walker the discus; and Audreyonia Sanders the high jump. Breyana Lee was first in the 800.

Arkansas High finished the meet on a high note by winning the 4x400 in 4:06.22. Whitney Green, Cadagiana White, tytianna Smith and Sanders had all of the Lady Backs celebrating.

Perhaps the best individual performances were turned in by Parkview's Jada Baylark, who won high point honors with 55 points, more than twice the number by anyone else. She was brilliant in winning back-to-back races (100 hurdles and 100) with times of 14.67 and 12.04, respectively. Baylark won the triple jump by leaping 39-10, the long jump (18-4 1/2), the 200 in 25.16 and was fourth in the 400 (1:00.17).
