Pleasant Grove only needs three sets to down QC

Pleasant Grove did some light housekeeping Tuesday.

Britton Anderson slapped in 16 service points, and the Lady Hawks swept Queen City, 25-13, 25-20, 25-16, on Tuesday at Hawk Gym.

Up 9-7 in the first set, Anna Grace Miller hit a touch shot that went for a kill to extend the Hawks' lead. Anderson served in six straight serves to put Pleasant Grove up 16-9. During the flurry, Macey Adams hammered in two kills, and Miller finessed a second tip in for a winner.

Anderson smacked in an ace to give PG the first-set victory.

The Hawks started the second set on a 7-0 run, with Adams serving in six in a row. Nakina Levingston led PG during the rally with a kill down the back baseline and a short tip shot.

Allison Michaelis served in four straight points to give the Hawks a 13-3 lead in the second set. Queen City committed two set errors during the run.

Cori Lang begun serving for the Bulldogs with PG up 24-15. The Hawks had four hitting errors and Jessica Jones put down a kill to bring Queen City to within four, 24-20. But Adams hit a kill down the back baseline to end the rally and give PG the second set win.

Madeline Haak went to the server's box with the Hawks up 9-5 in the third set. Haak slapped in four straight points to give PG a 13-5 lead. Levingston, Adams, and Miller had one kill each during the flurry.

Haak nailed down two kills as Anderson served in four points in a row later in the third set to give the Hawks a 23-13 lead. Adams hammered home the last two kills of the set to give PG the match victory.

Adams finished with 11 kills and 10 digs for the Hawks, while teammate Miller had 23 assists. Blair Smith had a game-high 24 digs and Anderson put down eight kills for PG.

Kaylee Kelley served in 13 points as Pleasant Grove's junior varsity defeated Queen City, 25-8, 25-14. Grace Pickelman helped out with 10 service points for the Hawks.

Presley Hargrove led PG with 10 points, but the Hawks' 9th grade fell to the Bulldogs, 25-20, 20-25, 26-24.

Pleasant Grove (9-1) plays in the Tyler volleyball tournament Thursday.
