Pleasant Grove wins opener

TYLER, Texas-Pleasant Grove went 3-0 in its opening round of pool play at the Tyler volleyball tournament.

Blair Smith had 19 digs as Pleasant Grove swept Hallsville 25-18, 25-21. Anna Grace Miller made 18 assists and served in eight points, while teammate Macey Adams hammered nine kills and served eight winners.

Britton Anderson helped the Lady Hawks with seven kills.

Anderson swatted 10 kills, and PG defeated Arp 25-13, 25-22. Smith had 15 digs and Miller made 15 assists.

Smith slapped in 11 points and had eight digs as the Hawks swept New Boston 25-20, 25-15. Anderson had seven kills.

Pleasant Grove (12-1) plays in the championship bracket against Robert E. Lee at 10 a.m. Saturday.

 

DeKalb goes 1-2

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas-Mikayla Baxley served in 12 points as DeKalb defeated Como-Pickton 25-15, 25-23, in the Paul Pewitt volleyball tournament.

Shelby Olson served in eight winners for the Lady Bears, and Kynli Holder had five kills.

Baxley had five service points in DeKalb's 25-10, 25-21 loss to Pittsburg.

Chapel Hill swept the Bears 25-19, 25-16. Baxley smacked in nine service points and had eight digs, while teammate Latresa Crittenden put down five kills.

DeKalb continues play in the tournament Saturday.

 

AHS frosh fall

Shelby Robinson served in seven points, but Arkansas High's freshmen fell to Arkadelphia. Jayda Griffin hit in six winners with three aces.

Alyssa Young served in six points, and North Heights' 8th grade got past Arkadelphia, 25-27, 25-16, 15-13. Alacia Grant helped out with three points.

Jamyia Montgomery served in four points as the 7th grade won the first set and tied the second with Arkadelphia. Jasmine McClure had three service points.

North Heights' 7th and 8th grade teams play at Ashdown Monday.

 

Tennis

Hogs top Benton

Texarkana Razorbacks boys' and girls' teams won their opening conferences tennis matches against Benton, 4-1 and 3-2, respectively.

The Hogs' next action will be home against Nashville and Hope Monday.

Prairiland nudges DeKalb

PRAIRILAND, Texas-DeKalb's Mike Wherry had two touchdown runs, but Prairiland got by the Bears 30-28 in a junior varsity football game at Patriot Field.

Wherry scored from 46 and 38 yards out for DeKalb, while teammate Kole Dooley had an 8-yard TD run and a 2-point conversion run.

Timon Proby ran in a score from 62 yards out and tacked on the 2-point conversion run. Proby also helped out on defense as he made two interceptions for the Bears.

 

Queen City shuts out Cushing

CUSHING, Texas-Dylan Scott scored on a run and threw a touchdown to Nate Burden as Queen City shut out Cushing 30-0.

Daries Allen had one rushing touchdown and two, 2-point conversions for the Bulldogs.

Kemya Hicks had one rushing touchdown, and Burden ran in a 2-point PAT for Queen City. Seth Crowley and Tyler Walraven recovered one fumble each on defense.
