Paul Pewitt girls unbeaten in tournament play

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas-Host Paul Pewitt went 3-0 in its volleyball tournament Friday at Brahma Gym.

Sallie Sartain served in 14 points with two aces and had 15 assists as the Lady Brahmas defeated James Bowie, 25-14, 25-7. Ebbony Cobbins had nine kills for Paul Pewitt.

Brelee Lawings served 12 winners as the Brahmas defeated Arkansas High, 25-17, 25-10. Cobbins put down 10 kills, Sartain had 13 assists and Amber Jenkins helped out with nine service points.

Jenkins slapped in nine service points as Paul Pewitt rolled past Union Hill, 25-15, 25-12. Sartain made 19 assists, Cobbins hammered nine kills and Lawings had eight kills to go with seven service points.

In other matches, Arkansas High fell to Union Hill, 25-21, 27-25, Union Hill defeated James Bowie, 25-20, 25-19, and Arkansas High beat James Bowie, 25-13, 25-13.

Chapel Hill plays Arkansas High at 8:30 a.m., Paul Pewitt takes on Como-Pickton at 9:30, Union Hill faces off against DeKalb at 10:30 and Pittsburg goes up against James Bowie at 11:30 today.

 

Hornets sweep Atlanta

HOOKS, Texas-Hooks swept Atlanta in three sets, winning 25-14, 15-16, 25-18.

The Lady Hornets (7-7) were paced by Kenley Kyles with 15 points and Cheyenne Springer added nine points.

Lexie Frachiseur also had eight blocks and four kills, and Emma Farquahar and Brandi Hout had 11 digs each for Hooks.

Shevonia Smith led the Lady Rabbs with nine service points and Amanda Whatley added eight.

Hooks will play Ore City at 9 a.m. today in the Gold Bracket of the Hughes Springs Tournament.

 

Baird sparks Avery

AVERY, Texas-Brianna Baird served 18 points, including six aces, and had 13 digs to pace Avery to a 25-17, 21-25, 25-18, 25-8 win over DeKalb.

The Lady Bulldogs (11-5) also got 15 kills, 10 points (four aces) from Jill Whitney, and 11 kills, 11 points, eight assists and three blocks from Cassidy Kelsoe.

Avery also won the JV match, 25-8, 25-19, with Quin Lite serving eight winners.

The Bulldogs' next match will be Tuesday at New Boston.

 

L-E edges Lady Dragons

REDWATER, Texas-Liberty-Eylau rallied back from a two-set deficit to nip Redwater, 12-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-13.

Derrica Henderson served 19 winners for the Lady Leopards.

Ramzi Smith and Bethanee Calicott served 14 points each for the Lady Dragons (6-7), Smith adding 20 digs and Calicott serving in five aces. Karli Boatright had seven assists, and Bailey O'Bannon smashed five kills.
