The last test for German politicians before next week's parliamentary vote is the Bavaria state election Sunday, with Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative allies hoping to provide momentum with a big win in the prosperous region. It's hard to predict how the outcome in Bavaria might influence the Sept. 22 national election, but governor Horst Seehofer, the leader of the Merkel-allied Christian Social Union, has pledged to "sound the signal for victory nationwide." However, it was sophomore Anderson Kopp and senior wingman Kobe Patterson who combined for 13 treys in powering RCHA past Clarksville for the second time in less than 24 hours for the tournament championship Saturday at Hawk Gym, 67-51.

Earlier RCHA whipped Texas High in the semifinals behind the play of Samuel, 74-44. The Pride had beaten Clarksville Friday, 62-56.

After losing three games in two days, Jefferson (6-6) rebounded to win the consolation title over New Boston, 69-46. The Bulldogs opened Saturday's schedule winning a 56-54 overtime thriller over Henderson in the consolation semifinals, while the Lions defeated Daingerfield, 44-40.

Championship

RCHA 67, Clarksville 51

All-tourney selection Kopp and Patterson had four treys each in the first half and The Pride led 20-9 at the first break, and 33-23 at halftime.

Clarksville's 6-8 Clashon Gaffney outplayed Samuel, who fouled out of the game with 5:31 left in the fourth quarter after scoring seven points, blocking eight shots and pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds. Gaffney was responsible for Samuel's foul trouble, scoring a game-high 30 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.

Gaffney's effort was wasted because of RCHA's spectacular shooting. Patterson led The Pride with 25 points, while Kopp contributed 24.

RCHA's biggest lead was 25 in the third quarter, but a conventional three-point play by Gaffney cut that deficit to nine when Samuel fouled out.

Gaffney was also selected to the all-tournament team.
