Invitational baseball event starts up today

Play begins today on both sides of the state line in the Brandon Warren Razorback Invitational, featuring seven American Legion and select teams.

Both the Texarkana Bulldogs (8-3) and the Texarkana Razorbacks (13-0), and their junior teams, will play, as well as the East Texas Broncos and Junior Broncos, the Texarkana Indians and a high school select team from Grace Christian, La.

Both Texarkana teams are off to hot starts. Bulldogs' ace Jake McDonald has thrown back-to-back no-hitters.

The Razorbacks are just back from a four-game sweep of St. Louis-area teams whom the Hogs outscored 25-8. Matt Goodheart is hitting .655 in 35 plate appearances for the Hogs, Nick Myers is hitting .609, Blake Hall is at .463, Cole Boyd .417, Riley Orr .406, and Austin Stubber .400. Patrick Flanagan, Tanner Vaught and Logan Vidrine have three wins apiece on the mound.

The Razorbacks are sponsored by the Red River Federal Credit Union and the Texarkana, Ark., Baseball Association. The Bulldogs are sponsored by Guaranty Bank and Trust.

The tournament honors Coach Brandon Warren, an inspirational coach and athletic director at Queen City High School. In 2011, he lost his fight with cancer at age 36, leaving behind a wife and three sons.
