GC boys, girls sweep 3A titles

GREEN FOREST, Ark.-Genoa Central's girls completed the Triple Crown by winning another 3A state championship in outdoor track and field Tuesday, and the GC boys also won their state title as the Dragons and Lady Dragons swept the 3A crowns.

The Lady Dragons scored 127 points to easily take the championship, and Genoa Central's boys scored 91 points, topping defending state champion Prescott, which finished second with 63 points.

The GC 4x400 meter boys relay team set a state meet record with a 3:33.59. Miller Clinton, Brennan East, Tyler Moreland and Donald Robinson made up the record-setting team. Prescott was second in 3:34.10.

Moreland won the 300 hurdles (41.53) and was runner-up in the 110 hurdles (15.63) behind teammate Hayden Hampton, who ran 15.31. Moreland also placed second in the discus (133-3).

Robinson was the 400-meter state champion in 53.21.

The Dragon 4x800 relay team of Jack Jones, Robinson, Clinton and Ryan Whitehead was third in 8:37.30.

Prescott's Tyler Rucker won the pole vault with a height of 12-6.

On the girls side, Genoa Central's 4x800 relay team of Victoria Hill, Taylor Bowman, Tera Frost and Cassey Gay won in 10:18.88. Cassey Gay won the 1,600 meters (5:33.54) and Frost was runner-up (5:42.04).

The Dragons' 4x400 relay team of Brittany Carter, Cassie Gay, Bowman and Elizabeth Clinton was second in 4:32.20.

Prescott's 4x100 relay team of Olivia Williams, Haliegh Wiley, Jazzmyn Witherspoon and Jamia Smith placed second in 52.36. Shatia Marks won the 100 hurdles in 16.48.

Also for GC, Carter was second in the 400 meters (1:05.15), Elizabeth Clinton was runner-up in the triple jump (33-5), Cassey Gay ran 12:47.40 for third in the 3,200 meters, and Eden Crow was third in the shot put (34-11 1/2).

Lady Panthers state champs

HOT SPRINGS, Ark.-Magnolia won the girls' Class 5A state championship with 95 points, while Forrest City scored 107 points to take home the boys' title at Hot Springs High School Tuesday.

Maumelle was second in the girls competition with 73 points with Vilonia third with 67.5.

Vilonia was runner-up in the boys contest with 82 points, De Queen was third with 69, and Magnolia fourth with 61.

On the girls' side, Magnolia's Briana Hardiman was first in the long jump with a 17-7, while teammate Kennedy Kuykendall placed second in the pole vault (10-2).

Chassidy Jermany earned gold in the triple jump (36-4.75) for the Lady Panthers, while Hardiman was third.

Kennedy Winship took home a bronze for De Queen in the discus (102-9). Magnolia's Takayla Ellison placed third in the shot with a 35-6.75.

In the running events, Hardiman blazed down the track in 12.40 to win the 100 meters. Hope's Ajah Criner was second with a 12.57, and the Panthers' Trinity Easter took third.

The team of Armani Bonner, Easter, Da'kisiya Young and Hardiman earned silver in the 4x100 relay (49.83).

Hardiman claimed another gold for Magnolia in the 200 meters with a 25.21. Criner was second, and Easter finished third.

In the boys' division, Logan Hall of De Queen won the high jump with a 6-07. Maurice Moore earned gold in the discus with a throw of 165-6. Magnolia's Kenny Leaks was second with a 152-6.

Drew Dykes took top honors in the shot with a 50-5.5 throw, while teammate Daniel Villeda was second (49-3). Leaks finished third (48-8.75).

Magnolia's relay team of John Barham, Patrick Daniel, Javier Guzman, and Jack Long crossed the finish line third in the 4x800 relay with a 8:25.95. The Panthers' Nile Cooper took bronze in the 110 hurdles (15.43).

Patrick Daniel of Magnolia finished third in the 3200 with a 10:18.02.
