BENTON, Ark.-They are called by different names, but after Thursday evening they became
champions again.

Arkansas High's boys and girls swept the Class 6A state track meet at Benton Athletic Complex Thursday.

Arkansas High's boys won their fourth straight title under head coach Denny Burdine, and the Lady Backs won their sixth title under coach Angela Moody.

"We told the kids that there are three types of athletes: participants, competitors and champions-today we are champions," veteran Hog Coach Burdine said. Moody was just as pleased.

"The girls battled their nerves and handled the ups and downs," Moody said. "We finished strong, and I couldn't ask for a better effort out of a group of young ladies.

"They represented the school well, and our school and town have a lot to be proud of."

Going into the final event, the 4x400 relay, the Hogs held a 7.5 point lead over Lake Hamilton, and the Lady Backs were up by 12.5 over Lake Hamilton.

The boys finished fourth in the 4x400, and the girls took second, both efforts paid off in gold.

Arkansas High's girls and boys had a slew top-three finishers.

Shikayla Walker earned gold in the discus for the Lady Backs.

Tytianna Smith, India Young, Cadagiana White and Tashiria Banks are state champions in the 4x100 relay.

Whitney Green, White, Smith and Aubreyonia Sanders were second in the 4x400 relay for the Lady Backs.

Sanders earned a silver in the 300 hurdles, while teammate India Young crossed the line third in the 100 hurdles.

Shebria Byrd and Smith went 2-3, respectively, in the 400 meters; good enough for 14 combined Lady Back points.

Quantiesha Coats threw her way to a second place finish in the shot, while teammate Skylar Bailey got third in the long jump and 200 meters.

Breyana Lee scored six points for the Lady Backs with a third place finish in the 800 meters.

On the boys side, Jonathan Gullatt finished third in the high jump, second in the 110 hurdles for the Hogs.

Timothy Stuckey took bronze in the 100m and silver in the 200 meters for the Hogs. Stuckey was edged out by a few thousandths of a second in the 200. Teammate Cameron Grissom was third.

Arkansas High's Tyler Braswell crossed the line second in the 1,600 and 800 meters.

The 4x100 relay team of Jaylon Bead, Cameron Collier, Cameron Grissom, Dejordan Mask took third

Jada Baylark was the top female athlete with 50 points for Parkview. Lawrence Nelson scored 27.5 points for Pine Bluff, good enough for top male athlete.

Lake Hamilton pole vaulter Nick Johnson set an Arkansas State and Class 6A record with a height of 17-3.
