Genoa girls win tourney game over Lafayette County

GENOA, Ark.-Genoa Central's girls won their game over Lafayette County in the annual Genoa Central Junior High basketball tournament, but the Dragon boys and Genoa's girls B team lost their first-round matchups.

The Lady Dragons topped Lafayette County, 48-24, with Hailey Wylie scoring 11 points to lead the charge. Mallory Cheatham paced the Lady Cougars with 17 points.

Fouke bested GC's B team, 42-12, with Taylor Hardin and Jade Perry scoring 11 points apiece for the Lady Panthers. Sky Byrd scored seven for the Lady Dragons.

Lafayette County's boys beat Genoa Central, 51-27.

Thursday's semifinals will begin with Fouke and Spring Hill's girls at 4 p.m. In the 5:05 boys game, Genoa Central and Spring Hill clash, followed by the Lady Dragons and Taylor at 6:10. Lafayette County and Taylor meet in the final game at 7:15 p.m. in a boys' semifinal.

The championship games are set for noon and 1:05 p.m. Saturday.

 

Lady Brahmas win pair

HOOKS, Texas-Paul Pewitt won two girls games over host Hooks, including a 38-2 decision in the 8th grade contest.

Sissy Jones led the Lady Brahmas with 14 points.

PP won the 7th grade game, 56-10, with Sydney Gentry scorching the nets for 34 points, and Sam Mongognia adding 16. Lindra Burchette paced the Lady Hornets with 10 points.

 

Lady Hawks sweep Pitt

PITTSBURG, Texas-Pleasant Grove won four games over the host Lady Pirates.

PG's 7th grade A team won, 38-1, with Aniyah Allen scoring nine points, and Lucy Woodman and Peyton Matthews adding eight apiece for the Lady Hawks.

Pleasant Grove won the 8th grade A game, 48-4, with Macy Young ripping the cords for 20 points. Katie Ferguson added 14 points, and Seagon Powell contributed 10 for PG.

Jazz Moses scored five to help the 7th grade B Hawks win, 17-4, and the 8th grade B team won, 13-4. Jean Williams had five points in the victory.

 

L-E girls top Lady Rabbs

ATLANTA, Texas-Liberty-Eylau won both games over host Atlanta, with the 8th grade Lady Leopards securing a 22-9 victory.

Ureka Vaughn scored 11 points for L-E (3-2, 1-1).

The Leopards 7th grade teams (4-1, 2-0) won 31-11, with Kayla Crabtree (12 points) and Bryanna Block (11) leading the way.

 

Lady Bears top Tigers

DEKALB, Texas-DeKalb's 7th grade girls defeated Daingerfield, 21-12, behind a well-rounded scoring effort.

Emily Murphy led the Lady Bears with five points, and Samantha Prince and Bailey Barger added four each.

DeKalb won the 8th grade game, 22-11, with Makaila Daniels popping in 16 points for the Bears.

 

Red Lick goes 2-1

RED LICK, Texas-Red Lick won both A games over Hughes Springs, which won the 7th grade B contest.

The host Lady Mustangs' 8th grade team won, 20-7, with Peyton Sims scoring six points to lead the way.

Red Lick's 7th grade A team pulled out an 18-17 win, with Izzy Hackleman and Justina Okereke scoring six points apiece for RL.

Hughes Springs took a 12-4 decision in the 7th B game. Izzy Daniels and Gracie Owens scored two each for Red Lick.

 

McLeod wins three

McLEOD, Texas-McLeod won the 7th and 8th grade boys games and a junior high girls game over Linden-Kildare.

The Lady Horns took a 45-2 victory behind Cary May's and Sibbie Comer's eight points apiece.

McLeod won the 8th grade boys game, 34-18 with Nathan Parker scoring 12 points.

The Longhorns' 7th grade team won, 23-7, behind Tyler Williams' eight points.

 

Leopards secure four

Liberty-Eylau won four games over Atlanta at L-E, including a 51-41 shootout in the 8th grade A game.

Sharmondre Lewis scored 20 points for the Leopards, and Clayton Smith added 11.

L-E's 7th grade A team won, 36-11, behind Chris Lewis' 11 points.

The Leopards' 8th B team took a 19-9 win, with Ladarrious Whitaker, Isaiah Hill and Tahj Stewart scoring four points apiece, and L-E's 7th B team won 21-5. Leetavion Mathis had eight for the Leopards.

 

Tigers down Bears

DAINGERFIELD, Texas-Daingerfield won both games over DeKalb.

Jamar Vaughn led the Bears' 8th grade with eight points and A.J. Burgin had seven in a 53-34 loss to the Tigers.

Daingerfield won the 7th grade game, 50-35. Peyton Yandle had seven for DeKalb, and Kayden Wafford added six.

 

Red Lick, Hughes Springs split

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas-Hughes Springs won the 8th grade game over Red Lick, 35-24.

Landon Yeatman paced RL with nine points.

Red Lick's 7th grade A team won 30-18, with Martin Haley scoring 14 points. HS also wont he 7th B game, 10-6.

 

Hawks open seasons with wins

Pleasant Grove won four games over Pittsburg to start off their years at 1-0 across the board.

PG's 8th grade A team won, 55-7, behind Brent Carmony's 17 points and Tvondrick Henry's 10.

The Hawks won the 7th grade A game, 18-16, with Aiden Murray scoring 10 points.

Pleasant Grove took the 8th grade B game, 40-0. Coner Damron had 14 for the Hawks, and Cason Head added 11. Colin Manning scored 10 for the PG 7th B team during a 29-7 win.

 

Dragons win trio, tie

REDWATER, Texas-Redwater won three games and tied a fourth against Queen City.

The Dragons' 8th grade A team won, 34-32, with Preston Davis scoring 10 points and Logan Johnson adding seven. Turante Neal led the Bulldogs with 17 points, and Derrick Alexander had nine.

Malcolm Brown pumped in 23 points for the Redwater 7th grade A team in a 30-19 win. Rleander White scored 14 for QC.

The Dragons' 8th B team won, 12-6, with Brock Sanders scoring four and James Stacy adding three. The 7th B teams tied 10-all. Evan Smith led Redwater with six points.
