BULLARD, Texas-It was a tough ending to Maud's outstanding football season.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Bremond senior Roshauud Paul was as good as advertised.

The lanky speedster ran for three touchdowns and passed for two more in the first half and the two-time defending Class 2A state champion Tigers extended their winning streak to 47 games by dominating Maud in the regional semifinals Friday night at Bullard's Panther Stadium, 48-20.

"Bremond has the complete package, and I haven't seen many 2A players as good as Paul," Maud coach Allen Cross said. "Paul isn't all they've got. They're very good in the line, running back, receiver, just everywhere. We were better than their twos."

Bremond (13-0) advances to the Region III final next week against another 13-0 team, Tenaha, which pounded Iola, 44-0, in its semifinal playoff Friday.

The score was 48-0 when Bremond coach Jeff Kasowski inserted his second team against the Cardinals (8-5) with 3:26 left in the third quarter.

Maud was clearly better than the Tigers' backups, outgaining them 230 to a minus 13 yards in the final 14 minutes of the game.

The Cardinals scored immediately on Bremond's reserves when Brooks Minter hauled in a 48-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Gage Jones with 1:37 left in the third period.

Maud's defense forced the Tigers' first and only punt of the game, and scored again in four plays, a 36-yard run by senior Markese Conkleton, who finished the game with 56 yards on 15 totes. That gave him 1,372 yards and 21 touchdowns on the season.

After a fourth-down play at Maud's 18 failed, the Redbirds marched 76 yards to score again, a 37-yard sprint by Cade Prince with 29 seconds left in the game.

Jones rushed for 55 yards and passed for 66, giving him 1,189 passing and 14 TDs, while running for another 988 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Paul didn't waste any time proving he's the real deal-at least at the 2A level.

He completed his first eight passes, including a 73-yard touchdown pass to junior Jared Stillbauer that made it 21-0 with 2:26 left in the first quarter.

Paul then lofted a 63-yard touchdown pass to Kaiden Peralez on the first play after a Maud punt at the beginning of the second quarter.

When Paul wasn't throwing touchdown passes he rushed for three six-pointers on runs of 3, 11 and 7 yards.

The Tigers finished the first half with 350 total yards, scoring on their first five possessions of the game before two penalties wiped out a sixth touchdown.

Maud only had 27 yards on 24 snaps in the first two quarters, but the Cardinals had two long touchdown passes to Prince nullified by offensive pass interference calls.
