Daingerfield edges Pewitt, 31-28

DAINGERFIELD, Texas-Daingerfield fought back in the fourth quarter Friday night to fend off Paul Pewitt's advance, and secured a 31-28 win in their District 7-3A, Division II opener for the Tigers.

Kieston Rushing rushed in for the first score of the game, a 57-yard run to put the Tigers (2-3, 1-0) up 6-0 after a failed kick.

The Brahmas (3-3, 1-1) retaliated three minutes later when Tyshun Mitchell caught a 36-yard toss from Lucas Hungerford. Mitchell kicked the extra-point as well. Daingerfield answered back with a TD pass of their own, Cedrick Arthur to Reggie Jeter for 36 yards. Jose Bello added the PAT (13-7).

In the second quarter, the teams exchanged blows again. Pewitt scored first with 11:31 to go, a 9 yard run by Hungerford. Chris Castlebery responded for the Tigers with a 2 yard plunge at the 8:49, bringing the halftime score to 14-19.

The third quarter belonged to the Brahmas who scored twice and kept Daingerfield out of the end-zone for the duration of the quarter. The first score was another connection between Mitchell and Hungerford for a 52-yard TD pass. The second was a carry by Mitchell from 17 yards out.

Nine points, that was the deficit the Tigers needed to overcome in the fourth against Paul Pewitt, who last week dropped Ore City 70-43. Lion's Tim Broner caught a 14 yard pass from Jeter to bring his team to within three at the 9:56 mark. Time was waning away, the game had less than two minutes, and Daingerfield was in the red-zone. The score that tipped the game to its final conclusion, a come-from-behind victory, was a 1-yard power plow by Jeter with 1:22 left in the game.

Hungerford led Paul Pewitt, rushing 23 times for 143 yards with a TD and throwing for 163 yards and 2 TDs.
