Arkansas High's second-half effort not enough, falls to Russellville

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.-Josiah Woodard put on a show for the Senior Night crowd at Cyclone Stadium, with Russellville winning, 45-28.

The junior rushed for an astounding 110 yards in the first half, off seven carries to go along with his two touchdowns and interception before intermission.

The triplets-Drake Browning, Jordan Hall and DeJordan Mask-led the Razorbacks with their legs in the first half.

Browning's gazelle-like dash to the end zone had the Russellville's coaches changes their schematic game-plan.

The Cyclones came out trying to match the Hogs ground attack, to no prevail.

Cyclone coach Billy Dawson, is the Phil Jackson of high school coaches in the state of Arkansas, some say.

He came out in the second quarter, throwing the ball all around the field, led by his senior signal-caller, Cale Fulsom.

Fulsom completed 11 passes on 16 attempts in the first
two quarters.

Fulsom connected with Caleb Stokes six times in the first half for 90 yards.

Stokes had a beautiful Odell-like catch down the sideline in the middle of the second quarter.

On a kickoff in the second quarter, the hogs didn't call a fair-catch and Russellville was able to recover the ball in favorable field position.

The Razorbacks defense, led by Lawler Johson, forced a fumble and recovered a touchback on the down that followed.

The depleted Hogs secondary was unable to counter the complexity of Russellville's offense going into intermission.

The hard-hitting 'Backs didn't give up going though.

Mask caught a bubble-screen on the AHS sideline and laid a boom on the Russellville defender, to bring life to his sideline heading into the locker rooms.

Mental mistakes continued to plague the young Hogs.

Fulsom continued dropping bombs as the third quarter commenced. He connected with Ryan Talley for a 14-yard touchdown strike.

Talley, a junior was pivotal on both sides of the ball for the Cyclones.

Browning's big 44-yard field flipping run, set up Hall's one yard touchdown run, continuing his sophomore touchdown campaign.

Russellville had 38 unanswered points before the Hogs dominant rushing touchdown.

Dawson's adjustment of pass first run, run second continued to provide success for the Cyclone offense.

Drake Adkins' 44-yard scamper was a knockout-blow in the third quarter to the Hogs defense, zig-zagging down the sideline for an impressive score.

Browning's offensive performance was not complete, rushing for a 52-yard touchdown, with a face masking penalty at the end of the run.

Russellville had a 45-21 lead and this cushion allowed for the Cyclone reserves to see significant minutes at the end of the game.

The Razorbacks weren't done, no matter what the scoreboard said.

Arkansas High's creativity to score brought standout lineman, Rico Thomas in the action, as his reception set up Browning's touchdown.

Browning continued his exceptional sophomore campaigning completing 11 passes on 22 attempts and rushing for a whopping 166 yards. He also boasted three touchdowns on the day.

Mask continued barreling over 6A defenders rushing for 67 yards and catching four passes for 89 yards. Hall rushed 17 times for 67 yards and one score.

Arkansas High continues its playoff hopes next week, as the Hogs host Siloam Springs for Homecoming. The game begins at 7 p.m.
