L-E cruises past Coyotes, 44-17

ANNA, Texas-Liberty-Eylau won consecutive games for the first time this season and climbed into sole possession of second place in the District 7-4A, Division I standings Friday.

The Leopards piled up 434 yards of total offense-more than 200 yards over what they allowed Anna-scored in all three phases of the game, had two safeties, and throttled the host Coyotes, 44-17.

Tailback Kameron Levingston rushed for two touchdowns and led a balanced rushing attack with 86 yards on 11 carries. L-E (3-5, 2-1) had 290 yards on 35 rushes.

DeAndre Hoof added 75 yards and a long TD on eight rushes, Decorian Phillips ran for 71 yards and a TD and threw another to Darian Walker. Kevin Florence also had 58 yards on 10 runs for Liberty-Eylau.

Phillips connected on 11 of 15 pass for 144 yards, tossing an 18-yard score to Walker with 8:05 left in the game after Dwayne Coleman had sacked the Coyote QB in the end zone for a safety.

The Leopards got a safety to start the second half as the Anna punter ran out of the back of the end zone after a high snap.

L-E limited the Coyotes (6-2, 1-2) to 233 yards of total offense, with just 52 yards on the ground on 41 attempts. Daunte Rose had 31 carries for 88 yards for Anna.

After winning the coin toss, the Leopards wanted to put their offense right to work, and it paid almost immediate dividends.

Florence dashed for a 26-yard gain on the first play from scrimmage, and two plays later Florence's block helped spring Levingston around the left end. Levingston hurdled Florence and the Anna defender and juked another down the sideline en route to a 32-yard score, just 54 seconds into the game.

The Coyotes methodically marched down the field to the red zone, but the Liberty-Eylau defense stiffened and forced a field goal, booted 37 yards by Kaleb Stewart to make it 7-3 midway through the first quarter.

Four plays into the ensuing Leopard drive, Hoof ran up the middle and turned to the right, outrunning two Coyotes to the pylon for a 48-yard touchdown scamper.

The next Anna possession was cut short was cornerback Michael Conley jumped a slant route and returned an interception 34 yards to paydirt for a 20-3 lead with 3:22 left in the first.

Due to a high snap and loss of 27 on a punt attempt by Anna, the Coyotes had minus-18 yards rushing in the first quarter. They changed their formation to start the second quarter and Rose ran for 62 yards to finish the half at 73, including a 1-yard plunge with 9:30 left in the half.

The score was set up by a fumble by the Leopards after the muffed punt attempt gave the ball at the Anna 42.
