The earth quaked with each Pleasant Grove step on the gridiron Friday night.

The Hawks rushed for 318 yards and defeated Pittsburg, 31-18, in a District 7-4A game at Hawk Stadium.

Pleasant Grove's tough defense shut out the Pirates in the second and third quarters.

Hawk head coach Josh Gibson changed the offense to the Wing-T; it worked. Pleasant Grove got its first district win and has a lot of momentum.

"I think we're back," Gibson said. "We shut down one of the best offenses in the area. We kept them off the field and used up the clock. Our kids and coaches have been resilient all year long. I feel like we're dangerous now."

TJ Cole, who totaled 101 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns, scored a 9-yard touchdown run for the Hawks in the third quarter.

Matt Day added a 25-yard field goal for PG in the fourth quarter for the Hawks' last second-half score.

Pittsburg scored 12 points in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter, but Pleasant Grove controlled the game most of the time with long drives that chewed time off the clock.

Keshawn Jones amassed 114 yards on 16 totes and a TD for the Hawks, and Josh Roberts had 46 yards on just six carries.

Pleasant Grove jumped out to a 21-6 lead after the first half.

On the opening kick, the Hawks' Day booted on onside kick and recovered the ball.

Cole capped a 10-play, 4:12 drive on a 1-yard touchdown run to put PG on the board first. During the drive, Josh Roberts carried the ball twice for 20 yards.

The Hawk defense forced a three-and-out on the ensuing Pittsburg possession, and the Pirates punted.

Pittsburg quarterback Jaylon Jimmerson connected with Cristion Williams on a 21-yard TD pass for the Pirates' first score.

Xavier Benson blocked the extra point for the Hawks.

Pleasant Grove marched down the field 86 yards on the next possession early in the second quarter, and Chauncey Martin grabbed a 22-yard pass from Cole for a score.

For the second time in the game, Pittsburg went three-and-out and had to punt.

Cole galloped 41 yards on the first play to put the Hawks at the Pirate 24-yard line.

Jones romped into the end zone from 3 yards out, and PG had a 21-6 lead.

Pittsburg's Jimmerson hit Dejour Dowell on a 38-yard pass to put the Pirates at the Hawks' 20-yard line.

Deldric Shields hauled in an 18-yard pass from Jimmerson, and Pittsburg set up on the 3 with 12 seconds left in the second quarter.

But the Pirates fumbled on the next play, and Pleasant Grove recovered to prevent a potential Pittsburg score.

The Hawks rushed for 187 yards in the first half and amassed 223 total yards, while Pittsburg amassed 156 yards total offense.

Pleasant Grove (2-6, 1-2) hosts Spring Hill next Friday at Hawk Stadium.
