Prescott hammers Star City

STAR CITY, Ark.-Prescott, led by Derrick Flynn and Carlos Vanhook, defeated Star City, 38-7, in the season opener for both teams Friday.

Prescott built a 38-0 halftime lead and cruised to victory.

Flynn was 6-8 for 101 yards passing along with a rushing TD, and Carlos Van Hook had 12 rushes for 108 yards with one rushing TD.

Prescott had a total of 257 yards rushing while holding Star City to a total of 60 yards of offense, and forcing two turnovers.

Star City got on the board with a late touchdown to avoid being shut out.

 

DIERKS 27, HORATIO 20

Horatio, Ark.-Dierks QB Caleb Adams led the team to a close but decisive victory over Horatio in new Lion head coach David Bennett's debut against his former team.

The teams were neck and neck at the half. Adams pushed his team ahead in the third, throwing a TD to Jacob Sharp and running in another. Horatio rallied in the fourth quarter with Zach Izzo bringing his team to within 7 with under 10 minutes to go but was unable to come back.

Adams had 7 pass attempts and 11 completions for a total of 107 yards and 3 TDs.

 

Genoa Central 35, Foreman 21

GENOA, Ark.-The Dragons opened the season on a happy note, upending the Gators by a pair of touchdowns.

Genoa Central running back Bo Jewell triggered the hosts' attack with 121 yards rushing and four touchdowns.

Jewell's scores came on runs of 3, 4, 37 and 16 yards for the Dragons, who amassed 313 yards total offense-all on the ground.

Genoa Central's other touchdown came on Jacob Jackson's 7-yard run. The Dragons built a 21-13 halftime lead and outscored Foreman 14-8 in the second half.

Foreman turned the ball over four times on fumbles while GC had three turnovers, two by fumbles.

The Gators, who have their fourth head coach in five years in Mark King (formerly of Horatio) owns a 5-2 record against the Dragons.

 

Fouke 41, Mineral Springs 14

Fouke, Ark.- Fouke won it's season opener, by breaking open a close game with 34 unanswered points over the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Fouke was able to hold Mineral Springs to 187 total yards, while also forcing 2 turnovers. Fouke had 250 yards rushing on 66 carries, and were led by Jarrett Easley with 28 rushes for 191 yards and 3 TDs.
