Hawks plucked: Liberty-Eylau outmaneuvers Pleasant Grove, 44-35

Liberty-Eylau's Kameron Levingston could not be stopped.

Levingston had four touchdown runs as the Leopards spoiled Pleasant Grove's Homecoming with a 44-35 win Friday night at Hawk Stadium.

Levingston finished with 172 yards on 11 carries and scored from 25, 58, 1 and 46 yards out.

Liberty-Eylau got its first win of the season to go to 1-4, while Pleasant Grove drops to 1-3.

The Hawks inched to within three points, 38-35, but Levingston scored on a 46-yard run with 8:57 left in the game to put the Leopards up by nine.

In the third quarter, quarterback Decorian Phillips found Isaiah Cross for a 76-yard touchdown for L-E.

Pleasant Grove drove 56 yards and capped the drive on a T.J. Cole's 7-yard TD run.

On the ensuing kickoff, Hawk kicker Matt Day legged an onside kick and recovered to put PG at the Liberty-Eylau 47-yard line.

The Hawks put together a 47-yard drive in 3:13, with Logan Wesely scoring from 16 yards out to put PG to within three.

Wesley's touchdown would be the last Hawks' score of the game.

The first quarter belonged to Pleasant Grove. L-E attempted to punt, but the Hawks' Bobby Cooks blocked the punt and teammate Ryan Pickelman recovered at the Leopard 35.

PG quarterback Cole capped a 35-yard, 4:08 drive with a 3-yard touchdown run.

On the ensuing kickoff, Liberty-Eylau fumbled, and Tyler Allen recovered for the Hawks on the Leopard 10.

Cole scored on a 1-yard TD sneak, and the PAT was good to put PG up, 14-0, with 2:53 left in the first period.

Quarter two belonged to Liberty-Eylau.

The Leopards responded when quarterback Phillips ran for 13 yards and completed two passes, one for 14 yards and one for 15, during the next drive.

Phillips had a 5-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter for the Leopards' first score. The kick failed and PG held a 14-6 lead.

The Hawks went three-and-out on their next possession, and the punter kicked the ball into the back of a PG player. L-E jumped on the football and took over on the Hawk 25.

Levingston broke free over the left side of the offensive line and scored on a 25-yard run. Levingston plunged into the end zone for the 2-point PAT.

Logan Wesley capped a 5:20, 9-play drive with a 5-yard TD run for PG.

On the first Leopard play from scrimmage, Levingston turned on the jets and blazed down the left sideline for a 58-yard score.

L-E got the ball back after the Hawks were forced to punt, and Phillips threw a 49-yard bomb to Laderrick Gray. Kevin Florence capped the drive off with a 25-yard TD reception from Phillips on a screen pass.

Dominique Williams intercepted a PG pass and returned it 35 yards to the Hawk 20-yard line.

Levingston dove in the end zone from a yard out to put Liberty-Eylau up at halftime, 32-21.

Prior to the game, Blair Smith was crowned Homecoming queen.
