Prescott out-jousts Knights for 20-9 victory

AMITY, Ark.-Prescott passed its first Conference 5-3A test with flying colors, defeating the Centerpoint Knights, 20-9.

The third-ranked Curley Wolves improve to 4-0 while Centerpoint slips to 2-2.

It was the conference opener for both teams.

Prescott was ignited by Carlos VanHook, who scored a pair of rushing touchdowns (5 and 10 yards) and Derrick Flynn, who added a 3-yard TD run.

VanHook's first TD came in the early minutes of the first quarter, a 5-yarder, with a kick added by Kade Honea. His second score gave the Wolves a 13-3 lead at the first break.

Centerpoint's offense was unable to penetrate the Prescott defense in the first quarter, but kicker Cesar Roman was able to kick a 33-yard field goal with 5:25 left in the opening stanza.

The Knights got into the end zone first in the second quarter as Eric Valdez caught a 6-yard TD pass from Logan Taylor. The extra-point kick failed, bringing the score to 13-9.

Flynn's fourth-quarter score came with just 6:12 remaining and Honea's kick sent the score to 20-9 Prescott. Flynn finished with 100 yards rushing on 20 carries.

Prescott rolled up 423 yards total offense while holding the Knights to 250. The Wolves' defense also played their part, intercepting four passes.

Nashville 71,

Arkadelphia 40

NASHVILLE, Ark.-Top-ranked Nashville's first Conference 7-4A test turned out to be no test at all.

The Scrappers dominated their league opener against the previously unbeaten Badgers. Both teams had entered the game with 3-0 records.

Nashville came out guns-a-blazing, making their presence known from the get-go. The Scrappers were led by quarterback Tyler Hanson, who completed 11-of-21 passes for 211 yards and five TDs and Darius Hopkins, who rushed 18 times for 301 yards and had four touchdowns.

The game started off on the right foot for the Scrappers with Dominick Kight catching a 16-yard scoring toss from quarterback Tyler Hanson. Jose Hernandez's kick was good, giving Nashville a 7-0 lead. Only moments later Darius Hopkins tacked on another 6 points with a 52 yard scurry into the end zone; with the
kick, 14-0.

Jauonte Brown hit back for Arkadelphia with 5 minutes left in the first half on a 43-yard pass from Alec Lewis. The kick was good, bringing the Badges back to within 7.

Nashville answered again in the waning minutes of the first quarter as Trent Harris dashed 42 yards for the TD, but the extra-point kick failed. Not done yet, with 1:32 left in the first, the Scrappers' Ty Pettway caught a 61-yard missile from Hanson to end the first session (27-7).

The Badgers came out on top for the second quarter scoring 20 points and allowing the home to score only 14. Arkadelphia got on the board first in the second half on a 50-yard bolt from Zion Hatley. Two minutes later Cannon Turner was able to add another TD on a 1-yard plunge. Nathan Warners' kicks brought Arkadelphia to within 7 (27-20).

Twenty-six seconds later, the gap was once again opened up by Nashville as Hopkins ran the ball in from 18 yards out. Fast forward 5 minutes and the Scrappers find another hook-up between Kight and Hason, this time for 33 yards, making the score 41-20.

Arkadelphia had the final possession of the half, and with no time left on the clock. Hatley plunged into the end zone from one yard out. The addition of Lewis' kick brought the half to and end with Nashville in front 41-27.

The Badgers had a strong rally the second quarter but the second half was all Nashville as the Scrappers pilled up another 30 points, winning the game 71-40.

The Scrapper offense covered 651 yards and racked up 10 TDs, five rushing, and five receiving. Scrapper Trent Harris ran the ball 15 times for 131 yards and a touchdown. Pettway and Kight had two receiving touchdowns apiece.

Nashville scored 91 points last week against Idabel, Okla.

 

Fordyce 42, 

Genoa Central 13

GENOA, Ark.-Genoa Central rushed for 248 yards, but Fordyce had 337 as the Red Bugs defeated the Dragons.

Fordyce passed for 147 yards for a total of 484 yards of offense.

Tyler Moreland scored on a 34-yard run for Genoa, and Aaron Barwick kicked in the extra point for Genoa Central in the second quarter.

Colby Cobb ran in a 3-yard score for the Dragons in the fourth quarter.

 

Horatio 13, Gurdon 7

GURDON, Ark.-In what could be termed a mild upset, the Lions (2-2) defeated the Go-Devils (2-2).

The Lions took a 13-0 lead in the first quarter, and the Go-Devils did their scoring in the second quarter in a game which saw no scoring after halftime. The difference in this game was the Lions out rushing the Go-Devils 266-116.

The Lions were led by Alex Martin with 125 yards rushing on 20 carries with two TDs, and held on for the win despite three fumbles. The Go-Devils were led by Thomas Muldrow with 80 yards rushing on 17 carries in a losing effort.
