THS' Kane punches ticket to state

ROCKWALL, Texas-Texas High's Kasey Kane finished tied for second in the Region II-5A girls golf tournament Tuesday at Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club, and finished third after a three-player playoff.

Kane joins Frisco Liberty's Darby Deans and Lake Ridge's Caitlyn Lindell as state tournament qualifiers. Deans shot 160 to take medalist honors, Lindell finished second after the playoff, and Kane was third ahead of Midlothian's Jasmine Zhang.

Lindell, Kane and Zhang had each shot 161 during 36 holes of regulation.

Liberty won the regional team title with a 665, Frisco Wakeland was second at 728 and Highland Park third at 729.

Lily Maxwell shot 185 for THS to place 29th, Autumn Parrot shot 217 for 64th, and Julie Sherman was 67th at 224.

Mount Pleasant's Reagan Ball was 55th with a 204.

Ashdown 15, Arkansas High 5

ASHDOWN, Ark.-Ashdown broke open the game with 10 runs late to finish a run-rule victory over Arkansas High.

Hannah McElroy was 3 for 4 with 4 RBI for the Lady Panthers, Makenzie White had 4 RBI on a pair of hits, and Adaysia Thompson and Sydney Hurd added a hit and 2 RBI each. Thompson hurled a 4-hitter for the win.

Shelby Robinson was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI for the Lady Backs, and Adison Wright and Kaitlyn Fortenberry had a hit and RBI apiece.

Arkansas High (9-12) hosts El Dorado Thursday in a 6A-West game, and Ashdown opens the 7-4A tournament at Mena against Malvern.

NASHVILLE, Ark.-Anna Kesterson hit a 1-run round tripper in the sixth frame as Nashville edged Taylor.

Kailey Carver was 1 for 3 for the Lady Scrappers with an RBI, while teammate Madi Mollier pitched a 6-hitter and got the win.

HORATIO, Ark.-Garrett Cook pitched a no-hitter and struck out nine as Genoa Central blanked Gurdon in the 7-3A baseball tournament.

Tyler Moreland smacked a solo home run for the Dragons to lead off the fourth, and he finished with 4 RBI and a single shy of the cycle. Dylan Turley was 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Trevor Wells added a double and single.

Genoa Central plays the winner of Tuesday's Fouke-Horatio game today.

Trent Wert received the win on the hill for the Tigers. Wert pitched six innings, struck out eight and only walked one on the night. Wert is 6-3 overall on the mound for L-K.

Nick Kunze, Dalton Hendrix and Tre Schuler, each added two RBI apiece in the rout.

The Tigers are 14-9 overall and 9-4 in district play.

QUEEN CITY, Texas-Queen City held on late to defeat New Boston in a varsity district baseball match.

Josue Rea received the win on the mound for the Bulldogs.

Kyle Parker led Queen City from the batter's box, collecting two hits in the game.

Tyler Strain, Philip Sissons, Bryce Green and Tyler Graham, each added two hits apiece for New Boston.

Queen City is back in action on Monday, traveling to Hooks at 4 p.m.

MCLEOD, Texas-James Bowie outlasted McLeod in a varsity district baseball showdown.

Bailey Obenoskey received the win on the hill for the Pirates. Obenoskey is 6-7 on the mound this season. Obenoskey also went 2 for 3 at the plate, adding an RBI.

J.R. Smith blasted a solo home run for the Longhorns in the first inning.

Dylan Trissell led James Bowie in the hitting department, going 3 for 4, adding two RBI on the night.

Mason Plunk and Caige Crowley, each added an RBI for James Bowie.

James Bowie is 17-4 overall and 12-1 in district play.

The Pirates are back in action on Friday, hosting Detroit.

TMS holds tourney

Texas Middle School held a tournament Monday and Tuesday with Rhett Young winning the boys singles, and Janie Rounds taking the girls singles.

In the doubles, Christopher Hill and Haak Chesshir won the boys, and Rounds and Reagan Potts took the girls title.
