A four-run fourth inning surged the Wildcats past the Hogs.

El Dorado sophomore Derek Jobe pitched 5 2-3 innings, struck out seven and gave
up six hits.

Jobe gave himself insurance at the plate, going 3 for 4, adding three RBI and stealing two bases for the Wildcats.

"Their pitcher did an awesome job tonight-he kept us off balance all night," Arkansas High head coach Layne Berry said. "We had a few errors that cost us some runs, but we have to hit the ball better."

Hog sophomore Drake Browning blasted a triple in the first inning, and scored on Austin Nix's RBI single.

Browning finished the night going 2 for 4 and Nix finished 2 for 3.

"We had a bunch of guys we worked in the ballgame tonight, gave some of our younger guys at-bats," Berry said. "I don't know if we won this game if our seeding would change or not. We're out to win every game, so that's no excuse. But we have to find a way to score more than two runs."

The Wildcats' aggressive base running also was a hidden stat that played a vital role in the conference matchup. El Dorado swiped eight bases and AHS was only able to steal three.

Hog senior Brett Cox smacked a double in the second inning, but the Razorbacks were unable to get much traction after that.

Cox finished with one hit in two at-bats.

Although the Hogs ended the game on a sour note, Arkansas High still has at least two games to play to decide their fate in the 2017 season.

"We're going into our conference tournament on Monday. We travel to Russellville at 6 p.m. We have to win one of the next two games or our season is over," Berry said. "I expect my guys to respond accordingly."

Softball

El Dorado 14, Arkansas High 3

El Dorado rolled past Arkansas High in softball play.

"We rested our ace (Kaitlyn Fortenberry). This game had no weight, one way or the other," Arkansas High softball coach Elizabeth Tankersley said. "I would've liked the outcome to have been different, but it's the little things that got in our way today."

Fortenberry went 3 for 4, with a double and two singles. Fortenberry also stole two bases.

Adison Wright, Kate Todd and Shelby Robinson added hits for the Lady Backs.

"We go to Sheridan on Monday at 5 p.m., and although they're the reigning state champion, we're going to give it our best shot possible," Tankersley said. "Win or lose, we know we have one more game. I'm looking forward to the challenge."
