Texarkana teens are winners of annual Hope Watermelon 5K

HOPE, ARK.-Two Texarkana teenagers were the overall winners of the annual Hope Watermelon Festival 5K here Saturday morning.

Texas High's Grant Jarvis, 18, was the overall winner with a time of 16:20 for the 3.1-mile race, while former Trinity Christian athlete Elizabeth Gillette was the overall female winner with a time of 18:24.

Gillette, 19, who will be a sophomore at Arkansas State University, placed second overall at a 5K race in Little Rock last month.

With her time Saturday, she placed 8th overall among the several hundred runners.

Another Texas High runner, William Harrell, 18, finished fourth overall with a time of 17:06.
