SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas-Avery improved to 10-4 on the volleyball season and claimed third place in the annual North Hopkins tournament, with wins over Community and Pittsburg sandwiched around a 3-set loss to Cumby Saturday.
In the third place match against Community, the Lady Bulldogs rallied for a 25-23, 14-25, 25-18 victory. Cassidy Kelsoe had six kills, 14 assists and eight digs for Avery, which travels to Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill today at 4:30 p.m. Jill Whitney added nine service points, including three aces, and 10 kills for the Bulldogs, and Megan
Roberts had six points and eight digs.
During a 16-25, 25-23, 25-21 loss to Cumby, Whitney served 12 winners, with four aces, swatted 12 kills and had 12 digs. Kelsoe added seven points, 12 digs, 17 assists and five kills, and Alexis Coughran had seven digs and five kills.
Coughran had 13 service points, four kills and four digs in the 25-13, 29-27 sweep of Pittsburg to open the day. Kelsoe added 12 assists, five kills, two blocks and five digs, and Whitney had nine kills and four digs.
