Lady Backs come from behind in three straight sets for win

Arkansas High's volleyball squad didn't make it look easy but still took care of business swiftly.

The Lady Backs devoured Arkadelphia in three straight sets, 25-23, 25-23, 25-19, Tuesday night at Razorback Gym.

"We let them get ahead every set, and we need to stay on top in these matches," Arkansas High head volleyball coach Kelsey Jackson said.

In the first set, senior Jasmine Simmons and junior Makenna Ivey pushed the Lady Backs to the win.

When Simmons took to serve, AHS was down, 9-4.

After Simmons' flurry of bombs, Arkansas High was trailing, 11-8.

Simmons led the Lady Backs with eight service points, and Ivey chipped in six.

Jasmyn Gordon led all scorers with 15 service points for the Lady Badgers.

"I don't like starting off from behind and having my back against the wall," Jackson said. "We did good getting the intensity back but now we're focused on playing against Paul Pewitt this weekend."

Simmons and Ivey continued their stellar play for Arkansas High, but some new names started making plays in the second set.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Fortenberry, seniors Brooklyn Brewer and Tatiyana Johnson added to the rout.

Fortenberry and Johnson finished with six service points, and Brewer added three for Arkansas High. Simmons added seven for the Lady Backs.

"This weekend, when we play we have to start out the match playing with intensity," Jackson said. "We're not looking too forward into the future. We're solely focused on our next match this weekend."

Ivey led Arkansas High in the third set with seven service points. Brewer was not far behind, chipping in four during the set.

Seana Humphries led the Lady Badgers in the third set with six service points.
