Redwater girls, Linden-Kildare boys win invitational

REDWATER, Texas-After three days of basketball, two champions emerged.

Redwater's girls and Linden-Kildare's boys were the champions of the Redwater Invitational basketball tournament.

Linden-Kildare went undefeated in the tournament, and Genoa Central was second in the boys' division.

McLeod was runner up in the girls division.

Lady Dragons' head coach John Edwards earned his 400th varsity win with Redwater's 43-37 victory over McLeod.

"The 400th win just means that I am old," Edwards said. "I have been blessed and it was icing on the cake to get it with the win in the championship game."

 

Girls' Championship

Redwater 43, McLeod 47

Karlee Carmony led the Lady Dragons with 13 points to secure the first place trophy for Redwater. Teammate Ashton Holland helped out with 12.

"I am extremely proud of the girls," Edwards said. "We have played in a lot of good tournaments and weren't able to win because we faced great teams. We faced a solid team in McLeod, and the girls played well. I was proud of the team effort."

Shelby Davis, who hit a tournament-high 5 shots from 3-point land, finished with a game-high 19 points for the Lady Longhorns. McLeod's Jillian Ellis helped out with 11 points.

Redwater took a 5-point lead at the half, 22-17, and built upon it after the third, 30-21.

But McLeod fought back hard in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Dragons, 16-13.

Third Place game

Paul Pewitt 44, Avery 23

The Lady Brahmas built a 14-point halftime lead and never looked back.

Ebbony Cobbins and Calli Osmon each scored 11 points for Paul Pewitt.

Cassidy Kelsoe had a team-high 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Linden-Kildare 33, Bloomburg 24

In the consolation bracket, Jamiya Gaston and Martin each had nine points for the Lady Tigers.

Haylee Campbell led the Lady Wildcats with 18 points.

Ore City 55, Hooks 27

Tori Pena poured in 23 points to lead the Lady Rebels to victory. Teammate Hannah Pendarvis scored 13, and Cassie Gabaldon contributed 10.

Boys

Linden-Kildare 71, Bloomburg 50

Four different players scored in double digits for the Tigers.

Ty Patterson and Ladavian Johnson each had 14 for L-K, while teammates Dalton Alford and Marquise Jones scored 10 apiece.

Conner Hooker scored a game-high 25 points for Bloomburg, and teammate Dakota Welborn added 13.

Linden-Kildare 63, Genoa Central 51

Ja'Kevian Rose had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to propel the Tigers over the Dragons.

Ty Patterson also recorded a double-double for L-K with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Johnson helped out with 14 points.

Colby Cobb scored a team-high 15 points for Genoa Central, while teammate Cason Brigham had 11.

Redwater 45, James Bowie 22

Spencer Cowgill, who hit three shots from downtown, finished with 19 points to propel the Dragons over the Pirates.

Jonathan Cody paced James Bowie with eight points.

Redwater finished third in the tournament.
