Hughes Springs runs over Paul Pewitt

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas-Hughes Springs did not need home court advantage to win big Friday Night, 48-39 over Paul Pewitt.

After the first period, the Mustangs were up by four. The lead increased to eight in the second quarter, and 16 by the end of the third.

Hughes Springs outscored the Lady Brahmas in every quarter, save the last when Paul Pewitt topped its opponent 17-10; it was for naught.

Kensley Echols led the Mustangs with 12 points.

Paul Pewitt found a leader in Ebbony Cobbins who racked up 16 points on the night.

 

McLeod 47, Maud 46

McLEOD, Texas-McLeod kept the Lady Cardinals at bay, 47-46, in a match-up that maintained its suspense through to the end in this final game in District 15-2A play.

The Lady Horns had only a slight advantage in the opening period, outscoring Maud 13-10. The Horns would reciprocate in the second quarter, out-doing its host by three for a 23-23 halftime score.

Maud was led by Lilly Love with 20 points. Alex Conkleton complemented with 10 points to boot.

In the third stanza, the teams continued to clash in a near stalemate, with Maud taking a one-point lead 38-37.

Tessa Glenn led the Horns with a game high 21. Salena Moon added on 10 points of her own.

The final period brought the war for dominance to end as the Horns finally pulled away as time expired; a back-and-forth tug-of-war decided by a mere two points.

Maud slips to 15-13 on the season and 7-6 in district play.

McLeod became the District 15-2A champions with a district record of 12-1 and a seasonal record of 24-6.

The Horns travel to James Bowie on Tuesday.

McLeod's jayvee team also claimed the title of district champs with a 26-14 win over the Cards.

Bailey Fielder led the Horns with 9.

McLeod's junior high squad ran away with game 40-2.

Amanda Bertrand led the way for the Horns with 8.

 

Nashville 37, Genoa Central 31

GENOA, Ark.-A difficult first quarter put Genoa under Nashville by seven, a deficit it was unable to make up in a game it lost 37-31 to Nashville.

The Lady Dragons made its best run in the third quarter, outscoring Nashville 8-5, cutting the visitor's lead to four points (24-20).

Carley Wood led the Dragons with eight points.

In the final period, the Lady Scrappers put the game out of reach holding back the Dragons to only 11 points while simultaneously tacking on another 13 onto the scoreboard.

Asia Munn led Nashville with the a game-high 15 points, while teammate Kendall Kirchhoff contributed 10.

The Dragons slide to 18-6 on the season and 5-2 in conference.

Genoa Central will get another shot against the Scrappers today.

The Scrappers JV team came away with a win also, 39-22 over the Dragons.

Maurelys Wade led Nashville with nine points.

Hailey Whitey took point for GC with 12.

 

Redwater 37, Daingerfield 35

DAINGERFIELD, Texas-Beth Calicott hit a shot from 3-point land with 10 seconds left to give the Lady Dragons the win.

Savannah Corbell paced Redwater with 15 points.

Montrevia Durham had a game-high 18 points for the Lady Tigers.

Redwater is 8-5 in district, have a lock on third place, and earned a spot in the playoffs.

The Dragons host Hooks for senior night Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Linden-Kildare 57, James Bowie 19

LINDEN, Texas-Skylar Vaughn hooped up a game-high 18 points, and the Lady Tigers earned a District 9-2A win.

Ashley Bell had 14 points, Sierra Johnson added 11 points for L-K, and Jaimya Gaston had 10. Bell pulled down 17 rebounds, and Gaston had 15 boards.

 

New Boston 64, DeKalb 44

DEKALB, Texas-The Lady Lions picked up a 20-point win over the host Lady Bears in District 14-3A action.

Boys

Fouke 61, Horatio 60

HORATIO, Ark.-In a down-to-the-wire game, Fouke dashed Horatio's hopes 61-60, in the final quarter.

The Lions took a first quarter lead over the Panthers 12-10.

In the second Fouke would put the pedal on the floor, tallying up 23 points to take a five point edge over the host.

Horatio was prepared to respond in the third quarter; answering back with 19 points to reclaim the lead 47-46.

The Panthers were led by Bailey Searcy with 22 points, Jona Parker who added 18, and Branson Kerk with 10 points.

Drew Hendrix, who had 21 points, and Gustavo Perez, who contributed 20, led the Lions efforts.

Fouke will play Mena Tuesday at home.

 

McLeod 62, Maud 33

MCLEOD, Texas-The Longhorns (9-2) got out to a fast start on their way to a rout of the Cardinals (1-10).

McLeod took a 36-22 halftime lead and never looked back, ending the game with a big fourth quarter. J.R. Smith led the Longhorns with 16 points and Zach Prince and Blake Williams added each.

 

Linden-Kildare 79,
James Bowie 28

LINDEN, Texas-Ja'Kevian Rose poured in a game-high 20 points, and the Tigers routed the Pirates 79-28.

Marcus Jones added 11 for Linden-Kildare, while teammates LaDavion Johnson and Marquise Jones scored 10 each.

Dylan Smith had a team-high 12 points for James Bowie.

Linden-Kildare improved to 17-7 and 7-4 in district.

 

Hughes Springs 60,
Paul Pewitt 54

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas-Hughes Springs esacped a close-call in boys' varsity action at home against Paul Pewitt.

Chandler King and Shawn Cope paced the Mustangs offense, each pouring in 16 points in regulation. Alex Bruce also contributed 12 points, all treys.

Tyshun Mitchell led the Brahmas offense, draining in 17 points and D.J. Turner added 15 points.

Hughes Springs is 11-15 overall and 5-6 in district competition.

The Mustangs travel to New Boston on Tuesday.
