Area teams get set for games

Mount Pleasant (25-5)
vs. McKinney North (21-8)

SITE, TIME: Wildcat Gym, Paris, 7:30 p.m.

AT STAKE: Class 5A area championship.

LAST ROUND: The Tigers beat Lucas Lovejoy, 54-50, and the Bulldogs beat Frisco, 48-38.

MOUNT PLEASANT LINEUP: Buddy McGill, C; Josh McGill, PG; Kevin Savage, G; Dorian Glinton, G; James Moore, F/C.

COACH'S COMMENTS: Mount Pleasant's Joey Chism-"I thought early on in the Lovejoy game, we missed a lot of shots that we usually make. Lovejoy is disciplined on defense and well coached. We got going in the second half and pressured them with our trap. We were able to force turnovers and get easy baskets.

"McKinney North is a blue-collar team that works really hard. They are fundamentally sound, rebound well, and get up and down the floor. They have a point guard, Harris, and he is probably one of the top five players in the state. I think it will be a good game for us.

"We are going to have to win the three battles-turnovers, free throws and rebounding. If we win those battles, then we have a chance to
advance."

NEXT ROUND: The winner advances to the regional quarterfinals next week to face either Highland Park or Frisco Liberty.

Daingerfield (20-11)
vs. Arp (13-5)

SITE, TIME: Panther Gym, Spring Hill, Longview, 7 p.m.

AT STAKE: Class 3A area championship.

LAST ROUND: The Tigers topped Paris Chisum, 56-42, and Arp throttled Ore City, 83-54.

DAINGERFIELD LINEUP: Reggie Jeter, PG; Keiston Rushing, G; Timmyon Broner, G; Tim Broner, F; Keylon McCain, C; Jay Johnson, F; J.T. Everett, G.

COACH'S COMMENTS: Daingerfield's Curtis Lewis-"Arp has a good, athletic team. They are really good on the open floor. They do a good job of hitting the boards. They have this 6-4 kid (Demarvion) Overshown and have a couple of kids inside that are 6-2.

"We need to come out and play 32 minutes of basketball. We've got to rebound the basketball. We started out slow, but I was proud of my kids for coming back in our game against Paris Chisum. We need to come out ready against Arp."

NEXT ROUND: The winners advance to the regional quarterfinals next week to face the winner of Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill and White Oak.

McLeod (27-6)
vs. Dallas Gateway (12-4)

SITE, TIME: Lobo Coliseum, Longview, 6 p.m.

AT STAKE: Class 2A area title.

LAST ROUND: The Longhorns beat Overton, 63-53, and the Gators defeated Wolfe City, 75-40.

McLEOD LINEUP: JR Smith, P; Colby Smith, G; Ryan Anderson, G; Zach Prince, G; Dagan Keener, PG.

COACH'S COMMENTS: McLeod's Steve Lambeth-"They're going to be pretty tough. They play in a tough district with good teams.

"They're big guys aren't as good as ours, but they have some tall, quick guards that will carry their team. The Woods' twins are their leading scorers.

"I'm expecting good games from JR and Colby Smith. They're leading us like seniors, and I expect they'll have a good night."

NEXT ROUND: The winner advances to play either Celeste or Rivercrest in the regional quarterfinals next week.
