Genoa girls win spot in state tournament

PRESCOTT, Ark.-Genoa Central's varsity girls' squad stamped their ticket for the state tournament with their 60-42 win over McGehee.

OBU-signee Eden Crow led the Lady Dragons, compiling a double-double, with 29 points and 15 rebounds. Victoria Hill added 14 points for Genoa Central.

Chardae Johnson led McGehee offensively, scoring a team-high 15 points.

The Lady Dragons take on Prescott in the semifinals at 4 p.m. today.

 

Fouke 64, Fordyce 57

PRESCOTT, Ark.-Fouke's girls clinched their first state tournament berth in 28 years with an upset victory over a No. 1 seed Fordyce Monday in the opening round of the 3A-4 regional.

The Lady Panthers, a No. 5 seed, broke open their 2-point halftime lead with an 8-point swing in the third and held on for the win. Fouke had four players score in double figures.

Hannah Mauldin scored 17 for the Panthers, Crysta Larey added 15 points, River Watkins had 12 with three 3-pointers, and Mallory Oliver chipped in with 10.

Kaoori Archer led the Lady Redbigs with 21 points, LaMya Bulliner had 16, and Alyssa Brown added 15.

Fouke plays Junction City, a 49-43 winner over Cossatot River, today in the
semifinals.

Arkansas High bulldozed Arkadelphia in girls' varsity soccer, and the Hogs shut out the Badgers at Razorback Stadium.

Tamara Biddle led the Lady Backs in goals, kicking a hat trick for herself. Biddle scored her first goal in the 17th minute, with the assist going to Hannah Rose. Biddle scored in the 23rd minute, being assisted by Nayeli Vasquez. Vasquez also scored in the 26th minute. Biddle's final score came in the 39th minute on an assist from Sydnee Pritchett.

Team captain Hannah Rose began the scoring onslaught in the 4th minute. Rose also scored in the 15th minute, being assisted by Biddle.

Madison Colbert scored in the 12th minute, with the assist going to Vasquez. Baylee Lindsey scored in the 20th minute, being assisted by Vasquez.

Makenna Ivey scored in the 30th and 34th minutes. Ivey was assisted by Rose and Lindsey.

Goalies Cecile Barnes and Megan Holder were also praised by their coach.

AHS is 1-0 overall and back in action March 3-4 at the Texarkana Invitational.

Jacob Akin booted in the winning goal in the 26th minute for the Hogs in the boys' game.

Liberty-Eylau 1, 2nd game

LONGVIEW, Texas-Zach Fowler won his first game as Liberty-Eylau head coach as the Leopards blanked Pine Tree at the Pine Tree tournament.

In its second game of the day, Liberty-Eylau fell to Pleasant Grove.

Rory Baugus was the winning pitcher and slapped 2 RBI for the Leopards in the Pine Tree game. Teammate Cutter Webb had 2 RBI. Jacoby Ross stole three bases for L-E as the team totaled eight.

Pleasant Grove's Caleb Bolden was the winning pitcher in the Hawks' win over the Leopards.

Ross, Webb, Darian Walker, Bryan Moore, and Marzavian Riles had one single each for Liberty-Eylau.

The Leopards play Center today at 5 p.m.

DENTON, Texas-Texas High's baseball club won both games in the first day of the Russell Athletic Invitational.

Chris Cowan was the winning pitcher against Timbercreek.

Colby Adkins added a solo home-run for the Tigers in the fourth inning. Chris Sutton and Connor Allred each contributed two RBIs.

Cowan received the win on the hill for the Tigers in the Denton game.

Kyle Choate hit a sixth inning grand slam for Texas High. Choate finished the night with five RBIs.

Quinn, Allred and Adkins each had RBIs for THS.

The Tigers are back in action against Rowlett at 12:30 p.m. and Frisco-Liberty at 5:30 p.m. at Dr. Pepper Park.

 

Play kicks off at
Linden-Kildare tournament

LINDEN, Texas-Kyle Parker smacked a one-run single in the sixth inning for the Bulldogs to tie the game at 10-all in their 11-10 win against the Wildcats.

Robert Hill went 2 for 5 for Queen City with 4 RBI and a triple. Kyle Parker and Bradley Norton had a pair of hits each for the Bulldogs.

DeKalb defeated Liberty-Eylau, 11-6.

Ty Brown, Logan Corbett, Dalton Hanna and Tristen Jamison each collected two hits apiece for the Bears.

Zach Hodgson was the winning pitcher during the contest for DeKalb.

Jansen Lancy went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI for Daingerfield, but the Tigers were edged by Elysian Fields 5-4.

Philip Sissons was the winning pitcher as he struck out 15 batters in New Boston's 10-0 win over host Linden-Kildare.

Jake Bobbitt, Brody Chitwood and Bryce Green had 2 RBI each for the Lions.

LONGVIEW, Texas-Pleasant Grove won a pair of games at the Longview tournament.

Each game was on a 1 1/2 hour time limit.

Khadijah Oritola, who went 3 for 3, belted a 3-run round tripper in the fourth inning for the Lady Hawks in the Marshall game. Oritola smacked a pair of singles to go with her home run.

Hanna Snyder went 3 for 4 with three singles for Pleasant Grove, and teammate Madison Allen was 2 for 4 with a double and a single.

Kristin Key threw the entire game, four innings, and earned the win.

Faith Dossey went 2 for 3, including a 2-run homer in the third inning, to lead PG to the win over the Lady Brahmas. Dossey also slapped a double.

Abby Hines added a triple for Pleasant Grove, while teammate Emily Hilton got the win in the circle.

The Hawks (3-3) play John Tyler at 2 p.m. and take on New Boston at 4 today in the Longview tournament.

Beckville 1, 1st game

Redwater 0, 2nd game

REDWATER, Texas-Redwater split its games as it defeated Beckville in its first game but was shut out by Pine Tree at the Redwater Invitational.

Ramzi Smith and Savannah Corbell hammered a solo home run each in the first inning for the Lady Dragons against Beckville.

Keeley Wilbur and Sara Easley went 2 for 3 apiece for Redwater. Pitcher Bethanee Calicott fanned nine batters for the Dragons and got the win.

Calicott struck out eight batters in the Pine Tree game, but Redwater fell.

The Dragons won the junior varsity game over the Lady Pirates of Pine Tree, 9-2.
