According to two media outlets, Texarkana Independent School District's school board approval on Monday is what awaits Flower Mound Marcus head coach Gerry Stanford being named the new head coach and AD for the Tigers.

TexasFootball.com's Matt Stepp first tweeted that Stanford will be named to the dual position at THS once the school board approves him, and starlocalmedia.com confirmed the report with comments from Stanford that he had informed his team on Thursday of his leaving.

"We formalized the decision yesterday and had been in conversations for about three weeks," Stanford said in the article. "I just felt like the situation for my family was a good one. As a head coach, you're never looking to leave. But I felt like it's one of the best jobs in Texas, and when the opportunity presented itself, I couldn't walk away without at least listening."

Stanford compiled a 20-12 record in three seasons with the Marauders and was 27-10 in three years as the head coach at White Oak High School prior to taking the Marcus position.

If approved by the board, Stanford would replace Barry Norton, who retired from Texas High in January and was hired at Arkansas High as AD and head football coach. Norton went 176-32-1 and was the head coach and athletic director at THS since 1999.

Last season the Tigers completed a 10-0 regular season before bowing out to West Mesquite, 30-27, in the Class 5A bi-district round.

Stanford has also served as assistant coach at Grapevine and Hurst L.D. Bell High Schools.

There has been no official announcement from TISD.
