Texas High boys fall to Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas-Mount Pleasant outscored Texas High 13-4 in overtime to escape with a 87-78 win.

Buddy McGill led Mount Pleasant with 24 points, while brother Josh McGill had 20. James Moore scored 15, Kevin Savage added 13, and Dorian Glinton had 11 for the host Tigers.

Lavon Brown had a team-high 18 points for Texas High, while teammate Quan Hampton, who hit four shots from downtown, finished with 15.

Texas High (11-6, 1-2) hosts Greenville at 5 p.m. Friday.

 

Liberty-Eylau 86,
Marshall Christian Academy 62

MARSHALL, Texas-Jordyn Pineda-Davis scored a game-high 18 points to lead Liberty-Eylau to a 86-62 win over Marshall Christian Academy Tuesday.

Five other Leopard players scored in double digits: Dominique Williams poured in 15, Decorian Phillips had 14 and Anthony Cunningham scored 13. Isaiah Cross and Ajon Gray contributed 12 points each.

Demond Robinson lit up the nets for 14 points as L-E's junior varsity smashed Marshall Christian Academy 52-28. Teammate Howard Barron helped out with 10.

Liberty-Eylau (11-9) opens up District 14-4A play against Atlanta Friday at the Rader Dome.

 

Linden-Kildare 62,
James Bowie 36

SIMMS, Texas- Cortez Peterson lit up the scoreboard with 14 points, and Linden-Kildare rolled past James Bowie.

Ja'Kevian Rose had 13 for the Tigers (12-5).

Cody Roberson paced the Pirates (3-10) with 14 points.

 

New Boston 49, DeKalb 45

NEW BOSTON, Texas-Deandre Dedmon spun in 14 points to lead the Lions over the Bears in a District 14-3A matchup.

Tristen Jamison scored a game-high 20 points for DeKalb, while teammate Logan Corbett had 10.

New Boston (6-15, 4-0) hosts Hughes Springs Friday in a district clash.

Hughes Springs 59

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas-Tyshun Mitchell hooped in 25 points to lead the Brahmas over the Mustangs in a District 14-3A game.

Sam Smith scored 20, while Love White helped out with 15 points for Pewitt.

Chandler King paced Hughes Springs with 20 points, and teammate Tradarian Craver added 15. Shawn Pope contributed 11 for the Mustangs.

Hooks 47, Queen City 42

QUEEN CITY, Texas-Connor Price fired in 18 points as the Hornets got the win over the Bulldogs in a District 14-3A battle.

Alex Carver hit five shots from 3-point land and finished with 15 for Queen City.

Both teams are 2-2 in district.

Hooks hosts Redwater Friday at 5 p.m.

 

Fouke 56, Genoa Central 47

GENOA, Ark.-Fouke boys' squad defeated Genoa Central in the bi-annual basketball Battle of the Bridge.

Jonah Parker and Landon Gonzalez steered the Panthers offensively, each dropping 13 points before the final whistle. Teammate Branston Kirk chipped in 11 points for the Panthers.

Colton McCoy led the Dragons offensively, scoring a game-high 16 points in the rivalry game. Colby Cobb dropped 11 points for Genoa Central as well.

Fouke is 1-3 in conference and hosts Nashville on Friday.

 

Girls

 

Genoa Central 61, Fouke 32

GENOA, Ark.-Eden Crow had a double-double with 33 points and 10 rebounds as Genoa routed Fouke at Dragon Gym.

Victoria Hill hooped up 19 points for the Lady Dragons.

Crysta Larey led the Lady Panthers with 14 points, while teammate Hannah Mauldin added 10.

Genoa (13-4, 3-1) hosts Mena Friday at 6 p.m.

 

Queen City 63, Hooks 32

QUEEN CITY, Texas-Jessica Jones kept the scorekeeper busy as she poured in 22 points for the Lady Bulldogs in its win over the Lady Hornets.

Jacie Lance popped in 14 points, and Madi Jones contributed 10 for Queen City.

Cori Brooks paced Hooks with 10 points.

 

McLeod 53, Maud 44

MAUD, Texas-Tessa Glenn had a game-high 20 points to power McLeod over Maud.

Shelby Davis scored 14 for the Lady Horns.

Bri Hemby had a team-high 13 for the Lady Cardinals (11-10, 3-3), while Lillie Love swished in 12.

Makayla Fielder led all scorers with 15, and McLeod won the junior varsity game 34-14.

Alyssa Hawley-Twite paced the Cardinals' jayvee with four points.

 

Redwater 48, Daingerfield 17

REDWATER, Texas-Redwater dismantled Daingerfield in girls' varsity action.

Karlee Carmony led all scorers, pacing her Lady Dragons with 10 points. Karli Boatright contributed nine points in the rout.

Jasmine Tatum led Daingerfield offensively, scoring six points on the night.

Redwater (14-6, 4-2) is back in action Friday, traveling to Hooks.

Redwater defeated Daingerfield in junior high girls' basketball, 21-20.

Emilee Calicott led all performers, scoring a game-high 10 points before the final buzzer.

 

New Boston 51, DeKalb 31

NEW BOSTON, Texas-New Boston cruised to victory at home over DeKalb in girls' varsity basketball.

Chloe Davis led all scorers, dropping a game-high 11 points in the Lions' victory.

Latresa Crittenden led the Lady Bears offensively, scoring 10 points on the night.

New Boston (12-12, 5-1) continues play Friday traveling to Hughes Springs.

DeKalb defeated New Boston in junior varsity action, 40-35.

Carrie Almond led all scorers, dropping a game-high 14 points. Rachel Fannin added 12 points for the Lady Bears.

Kayla Roseberry led the Lady Lions' offensively, dropping 12 points.

 

Hot Springs 57,
Arkansas High 37

HOT SPRINGS, Ark.-Hot Springs defeated Arkansas High in a varsity conference clash.

KeKe Hunter paced the Lady Trojans to victory, dropping 18 points before her night was finished. Ariana Guinn contributed 14 points in the rout.

The Lady Backs were led by its team captains of India Young and Tierra Holliman. Holliman was being her usual self, leading Arkansas High offensively dropping 13 points on the night. Young also steered the Lady Backs' offense, dropping 12 points before the final whistle.

Arkansas High is back in action on Friday, hosting De Queen at Razorback Gym.

 

Girls Soccer

 

Pleasant Grove 1, Hallsville 1

HALLSVILLE, Texas-Pleasant Grove tied Hallsville in varsity girls' soccer to open the 2017 season.

In the 71st minute, the Lady Bobcats sneaked in the first score of the game on a corner kick.

The Lady Hawks struck back at the 77th minute mark with Celeigh Redden blasting a goal to tie the match 1-1. Katie Hutcheson was credited with the assist on Redden's goal.

Pleasant Grove is back in action Thursday, taking on Whitehouse in the Hallsville girls soccer tournament.
