Daingerfield boys defeat New Boston

Lady Lions cruise to 52-27 victory

NEW BOSTON, Texas-Although New Boston and Daingerfield came into Tuesday's contest with losing records, the teams were battling for first place in District 14-3A with 5-0 district records.

It was a close contest until the 2-minute mark of the third period when Daingerfield outscored New Boston, 13-1, during that stretch to take a 57-38 advantage and went on to a 71-61 victory at the Lions Gym.

New Boston's Lady Lions were an easy winner over Daingerfield, 52-27, and Daingerfield won the junior varsity game, 31-21.

The teams exchanged leads several times in the first half with the Tigers leading, 36-33, at halftime.

Deandre Dedmon scored the first six points for New Boston as the teams were tied, 6-6 midway in first quarter. A pair of 3-point shots by Demarcus Smith put the Lions up, 15-14, before Daingerfield regained lead, 16-15, at end of period.

The teams still played on even terms in second period and were tied, 29-29, before the Tigers took the lead. Micah Reeves scored 10 of his 13 points in the second period to lead the Tigers, and Dedmon paced the Lions with 10 points.

Daingerfield (14-16) maintained a 3 to 5-point lead for most of third quarter as New Boston missed on several easy shots near the basket.

The Tigers then pulled away in the final two minutes when Keith Bryson hit a pair of 3s to lead a 13-1 run for the Tigers to take a 57-38 lead into the final period. Daingerfield outscored New Boston, 21-5, in the period.

New Boston (7-16) caught fire in the final quarter, outscoring the Tigers, 23-14.

Reeves was the leading scorer in the contest with 24 points with Bryson adding 14.

Dantrey Copeland and Dedmon led the Lions with 13 points each, and Colby McElwee had 10 points.

After leading by just five points, 13-8, at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Lions blew the game wide open with a 21-8 advantage in the second period for a 34-16 lead at halftime.

The Lions continued to pull away, outscoring Daingerfield, 14-3, in the third period.

All 11 players scored for New Boston with Chloe Davis leading the way with eight points.

Tre Durham led the Tigers with 12 points.
